That a committee el three, to- wit, J. B. Felder, mayor, as chairman, P. H. Williams and J. A. Cobb, be appointed by this body, for the purpose of purcboslng suit able grounds for a public school building and a site for a city ball, and also to superin tend tbe plansand construct ton of said build ings, and to negotiate for the sale of said bonds to be tuned for said purpose and to do everything that ts necessary for tbe speedv completion of said work. Norrman, Esq., of Atlanta, Ga., was employed as arebltect, and furnished tbe plans, drawings and apeo- Ifleatlons, and aoperintended the erection of tbe bnlldlng for 5 per oent of tbe amount of tbe contract. The grounds having been! purchased and plana agreed upon, bids for the building were duly advertised for. Tbe bid of Mr. James Smith of Sparta, Ga., waa considered tbe beet; and tbe contract woe awarded him at 812.275. When Mayor Felder oailed Alderman Bivins to the chair and moved that the report be received and spread upon the minutes. Motion put and carried A motion by Mayor Felder to refer tbe report of the building committee to tbe finance committee was carried. Mayor Felder In the chair. Engineer Eldridge submitted report as to grade of Lee street from Lamar to Forsyth streets, with estimated oost of grading same; and on motion tbe report was referred to tbe finance committee. The street committee submitted ad verse report upon the petition of Mrs. Davis, which was received and adopted. The bnlldlng committee to whom was refered the petition of Amerlou* Light Infantry submitted the following report whieh was rooeived and’adopted: To tbe Honorable Mayor and City Coun< ell—Wa recommend that tbe Americas Light Infantry be allowed ibe use of tbe ball temporarily, until the chairs and furniture are placed therel o. The question of getting aside a certain portion of Oak Grove cemetery .was re ferred tocemetery committee with ln< (tractions to report at next meeting. Tbe street committee was granted farther time on the Montgomery and Sebnmpert building. The question ot speolal tax on bro ker* waa referred to finance committee. Alderman Bivins was excused and re tired. On motion of Alderman Davenport Vigilance fire company waa allowed to use the plug at corner Lee mid Jeffer son street during hoars of practice. Complaint as to the waste of water by parties throughout tbe city woe referred to the water commissioners, with re quest that tbey give the matter their prompt attention. The following resolution by Alderman Davenport was adopted: Resolved, That Wide-awake and T. The question of using the fire hose for Hushing manholes waa referred to chief of fire department. The matter of opening bids for Iron cages in guard house was referred to finance committee. Marshall Lingo reported that he bad in accordance with Instructions from the mayor and council, employed Clarence Ratter as impounding officer at a salary of $23 per month. Application of T. J. Mitchell for retail liquor license for twelve months, dating from October 1, waa granted npon ap pllcant complying with ordinance. Petition of Wm.
