Soon becoming infatu ated with the daughter of one of the most ancient and wealthy families he asked her hand and was rejected, the yonng Indy being already affianced. Half crazed and thoroughly enraged he planned revenge. Being un excellent mechanic he soon evolved a most formi dable looking key. The handle of this nniqne weapon conld be easily turned. Being turned it disclosed a spring with a missile in the shape of a needle of ex quisite fineness. With thiH weapon Te baldo waited at the clmrch door until the maiden he loved passed in on the morning of her marriage. When the bridegroom appeared the desperate lover, nnperceived, sent the slender poisoned ueedle into his rival’s breast, and within an honr he was dead of a “strange, baf fling disease. * Again Tebaldo demanded the hand of the maiden, but was refused. Within a few days both her parents had died id a very mysterious manner. Suspicion being excited, examination whs made, and the small steel instruments found in the flesh in both cases. One day the maiden allowed Tebaldo an andience. bat told him that she would never be bis bride. Withiu an honr she was a corpse. Tebaldo was suspected, the key discovered and the culprit hanged. The celebrated “key of death" is still shown to the curious visitor of the Venice museum.—81. Louis Kepnblic. , ■. 1 1 A Convenient Ring. The following incident happened at Oroville. Tlie jeweler took the ring and smiled —be hnd seen it befure. “I can fix that in a minute,” replied he, 'Screwing a magnifying glass in his eye, and taking a small (harp pointed Instrument In his hand, be tonebed a minute button on the inside of the ring It on her finger, “Yon eee t w made In this manner for reason that they are worn by so many different people: it is a great conven ience.” The yonng lady sailed oat or the store horning with indignation, and the rea son she did not fly was because she didn't have the wings. Wbat did she think? Yon know, and it is only necessary to state that she did not wear the ring. Another girl has it now. but this tine the jeweler was not permitted to tonch the button—the yonng man did it him self.—Jewelers' Circular. A Deaf Mute Cow. Alexander Skerkoff. the Russian vet erinary surgeon, reports the case of a deaf mate cow. She is U years old, of Algava breed, belongs to a Russian no bleman. and has never showed signs of hearing or been known to bellow. See ing that other cows bellow, she tries to imitate them, stretching ont her bead and opening her month, not, however, prodacing the least semblance to a sonnd. Two of her offspring have been curionsly malformed. One bad its tail directly between the eyes: it lived but a week. The other is a full grown cow of S years, with her adder iu her flank, abont eight inches from her backbone.— London Tit-Bits. In announcing it there is no op portunity for the brakemeu to dLgnise the word, as he is too apt to do with the names of other places.
