construction for the contractors, Messrs.
Kerr, Murray Manufacturing Co., of Ft
Wayne, Ind., and Mr. T. A. Klutz, ar
chitect, of thia city, baa local charge of
the work in tho interest of the owners,
with Mr. J. H. Haggerty, superintend
ent of the Light and Power Company, in
general supervision.
The plant, taken as a whole, la amply
adequate in "a producing capacity to
supply tlx cl y with a good quality of
gas for many years to come, having
three furnace benches of live retorts
each, making fifteen retorts in all. Only
ten of these retorts will at first bo used,
developing a delivery of 0,000 feet of
illuminating gaa per day.
The retort and furnace room is .'So feet
In size, the condenser and scrubbing
room 13 feet by 85 feet, and tho purify
ing room 24 feet by 35 feet, accommo
dating four purifiers 6x8 each, w ith I
joint purifying rapacity of 100,000 feet

Next to tho purifying room Is tho
office and meter room, 12x35 in dimen
sions and containing the general offices,
the meter and street main governor.
This room is on the aonth end of the
building.
The gas holder and water tank an-
jacent to the building on the west side
are almost completed and are built of
rlvetted boiler plate, and when full the
bolder will be forty feet height and
sixty-three feet In diameter. uic«
The company propose to pueh the
work forward to completion as rapidly
as possible, having employed abont
twenty-five hands at present on the work
of construction. There have been many
unavoidable delays on account of bad
weather, scarcity of labor and lateneu
in receiving machinery from the manu
facturers. However, everything le now
running smoothly and by December 1,
the company is confident of being able
to deliver gas to consumers.
There have been need in the construc
tion of this plant about 000,000 ordinary
brick for general building, and 35,000
fire brink for the retort fnmaees, whloh
will stand a beat of 3,000 degrees.
B The buildings are all of the most sub

and when finished will be among the
most complete gas-works buildings In
the state.

GAMSB1HUS HALLE.
Bottom of the Sea.
This troupe played at the Open House
last evening to a good andienoe and gave
general satisfaction.
Geo. R. Webster, ax “Alexia Ban! lie,”
a Greek adventurer, was exceptionally
good In hie part J. M. Brophy in his
oast of a wealthy young American won
much praise, while Meier*. O'Neal),
Haney, Murphy, Barrett, Banard, Bur
gess and Olbler all evinced a thorough
familiarity with the plot and spirit of
the play. •!
Miss Camille Cleveland, as “Emile Le
Brun," captured the hearts of the audi
ence, both the malo and female contin
gency, and in her Interpretation of the
character was piquant and lo/ahle. Her
rendition of the ballad “Down on tho
Farm" brought forth repeated encores.
Misses Douglass end Stuckmoycr were
both admired, particularly the latter in
her inimitable dancing specialties.

At the Flay.
The unusually flue audience which
filled DeGive’s opera house last evening
was mystified. As a prestidigknteur
Herrmann is a wonderful ami startling
success. His entertainment is, as tlie
bill of tlie play declares, one of mirth,
magic and mystery.
The first part, entltlod thirty minutes
with Herrmaun, l.v a variety of very
clever tricks.
After a minute's intermission an illu
sion called the vanishing lady is given,
in which the tr'p door Is used to mystify
the audience.
In part first, Madame Herrmann and
Abdul Kalin perform some very neat
tricks under the head of “the new black
art”
Then comes probably the most mysti
lying feature of the programme, the lie
lease of Strobeika.
Strobeika, as produced by Herrmann,
le baaed upon a Russian romance, one of
the features of watch Is the escape
from piieon of a young officer of the
guard, Ivan Ivanhoff, through tlie in
genuity of his fiance, Strobeika, who in
some manner obtained admission to bis
cell, loosened hie shackles and chains,
and herself assumed them, keeping np
the delusion until Iran was safely away.
In Professor Uerrman's Illusion the sub-,
stitution of Strobeika for the menscled
prisoner chained to the the the plank by
the committee from the audience is
much more difficult than the original
Strobeika’e brave and ingenious trick.
A man ie locked securely to a board
by a committee from the audience, and
the board, hong up inside of an iron
framework. The committee remains on
the stage and command* full view of all
sides.
The curtains are drawn. They hide
the flgaro bat do not reach the floor by
two feet, permitting the audience to see
under the framework.
Ten seconds elapse. The curtains are
drawn, and a lady is discovered locked
to the board In place of the man.
With a number of amueing tricks by
Herman the excellent performance is
closed —Atlanta Journal.
