Londos, Oct. 23. — The Kile* have
Ik-cii very generally renewed over Great
Britain and along the coast. A govern
ment dredging vessel haa foundered in
the dangeroua shoal of Ooodwin sands.
The lifeboat succeeded in bringing oil
the crew of the dredger in safety.
The Russian bark Gesdn. while at
tempting to secure shelter in the harbor
of -Saingate, collided with n sea wale,
anil immediately snuk. A relief boat
was promptly sent to her rescue and
the crew were all safely landed. Many
vessels of all kinds are reported ashore
at dilTerent points on the coast.
In the county of Somerset 14,000
acres have lieen submerged, wliilu the
dykes everywhere have been swept
away. The comity has assumed the
as)iect presented in the time of Alfred
the Great, and the Lslnnd of Athelney,
where the monarch took refuge during
the Danish invasion, has ugain been
created. Windsor castle loomiug
frowningly upon vast expanse of waters
which surround it on all sides.
The Thamesside houses are being rap
idly deserted of the occupants who ure
paddling abont in canoes, looking for
dry land whereon to place their families
and such effects as they have been able
to save from the devouring floods.
The swnmps surround the town of
of Windsor nnd the comity of Kent.
The Fen districts of Lincolnshire and
midland counties are deluged.
"Spider and Fix.**
The “Spider and Fly." a spectacular
pantomime, drew excellent houses to
the Windsor Theatre. It is one of the
most enjoyable things the Windsor has
given u» this year. The company is
good, the scenery new and attractive.
The applause that accompanied the per
formance wan wholly deserved.—New

London, <X-t. 28—A local paper of

Mr. Purnell declared that Mr. Glad
stone's adoption of home rale had noth
ing to do with right nor justice. It
was the solid eigUty-flve Irish votes,
awl nothing else, that influenced Mr.
Gladstone. Mr. Purnell described O'-

Dillon was without brains, wnlle O'Bri

croup can be prevented. True croup
never appears without a warning. Tho
first symptom is hoarseness; then tho
child appears to have taken cold or a
cold may have accompanied the hoarse
ness from the start, After that a pecu
liar rough cough is developed, which is
followed by the croup. The time to act
is when the child first becomes hoarse; a
few doses of Chamberlain’s Cough Rem
edy will prevent the attack. Even after
a rough cough has appeared, the disease
maybe prevented by using this remedy
