Dawkins, Jr , for the past several years conneoted with the S., A, & U. railroad in a higb'clerical capacity, left this morning to accept a position with Ur. Clarence Knowles, the promi nent insurance man of Atlanta. Ur. Hawkins lias a legion of friends in Americus who without exception deeply regret his departure, and the social cir cles of the city will sadly miss his hand- some face and. genial presence during the coming season. MY LINE OP Chokee Destroyed by Fire. Veaterday morning about 3 o’clock two store houses with contents and the tele graph office at Chokee, 6a., were burn ed. The loss will probably reach $9,000, with an insurance of about $4,000. The property was owned by Ur. A. H. Sim mons, who was absent from home at the time, and the fire is supposed to be of Incendiary origin. Full details could not be obtained. A great excitement was caused recent ly by the conjunction of certain planets said by astronomers to foretell death by oold, etc. But all anxiety was quickly dispelled by the sage remark of one old citizen; "What do we caret ain’t we got Dr. Bull's Cough Syrup?” Fine Horses and Mules. The Times-Recordeb is in hearty sympathy with the object of this meet ing and will cheerfully devote any space necessary towards accomplishing the de sired result The move on the part of the committee in calling together the Georgia press is likely to prove of great benefit to the cause, and It la probable that there are few papers within the borders of the commonwealth which will not cheerfully lend their Influence and co-operation to the raising of the necessary amount The editors are invited to be the guests of Uacon during the convention and those who bare partaken of the whole- souled hospitality of the Central City are looking forward to the convention with unmlxed pleasure.
