Cleveland and (fray is the slate some Democrats are (rambling on. Both are shut to the core with Di Pkksidknt Haiikison has a clean record so far as the treasury is concern ed. Not one penuy lias been left. Col. Gantt says in bis wrath that the Telegraph will soon be no more, anti is now sharpening bis pencil to writo its obituary. The smoke of battle is fast lifting and •the truth is dawning that the magnitude of the democratic victories has been greatly underestimated. L. L Polk, president ef the National Alliance, is against Cleveland, tooth and Toe nail. Mr. Polk has an unbroken record of defeats, and ids opposition to anyone seems to melt away like morning frost-work. Fokakf.k'h presence iu Washington is the source of great political agitation and speculation is rife as to its signifi cance. Sherman is still lulled into a soothing sense of security by the -Sena torial bee that is tangled up in ills bon net Some vandal has invented a razor that he calls the “H. W Grady” razor. This is the penalty of greatness, but it is not infrequently the case that the name of some distinguished benefactor of human race is perpetuated in this vulgar way long after the memory of Ins services has become dead. The Atlanta Constitution has its dan- dor up about the stiver issue. It de clares that the silver question had uo tangible oflcct on tho result in Ohio snd cites an endless army of facts to sustain Its attitudo. Silver or no silver must be subordinated to the real and vital Issue, which Is—democratic unity. The Murpbey-Uurtle-IIasttngs fracas, which occurred in Atlanta. Friday, is creating considerable stir. Without commenting upon the relative merits of the opposing factions, It looks as If dif ferences between gentlemen might be ad jus toil In a leu vulgar nay than through a common street row. Tub Montezuma Record of this week in speaking of hie charge to the grand jury of Macon Supetlor Court, pays to Judge Fish the following well-deaerred compliment: “It was sn admirable charge, and all of our people feel proud of Judge Fleh. It is evident that he in tends to be a judge and not a politician on the hunt for a higher office." Savannah it “working” every agen cy possible for securing deep water. The National Farmers' Congress has Just passed a resolution Indorsing the pro ject. When Congress meets It will be confronted fy a formidable array of facts, figures, resolutions and Indorse ments on this subject fro n all over the country. It hustling brings auocess, Savannah will deserve It. What la the matter with Editor Mar tini Baa some onen bee trying to tar nish bis reputation? As well try to “pnlnt the lily or gild reflned gold.” In his burnt of angry indignation, Editor Martin gays: “The attempt to define such a dastardly coward staggers imag ination and palsies the welrdeet flights of faney. Unfit for the oompany of bravo men and pure women, this moral monstrosity Leeks In vain the Unship of the hyena, and at last sneaks off to be the only solace of its putrid hldeoua- THK PRIMARY. Tlie timely suggestion made by Tiie Times-RecoBDF.k uf yesterday as to the early action of the executive committee of the Democratic party In regard to the coming municipal election, met with much favor and was highly commended and endorsed by many prominent citi zens. The wisdom of tho Democratic busi ness men of our progressive city in last year insisting that the turmoil and strife naturally incident upon a promiscuous campaign be in some way put an end has been fully demonstrated to last year the ignorant and the L ous went to tho polls with tho same r« as the property holders and the virtuous of our citizens. It was poi-iment. This experiment was a ess. Instead of a rabid campaign which the lowest passions of the ig norant werq appealed to anil bribery, open, notorious and humiliating, had been resorted to, the untterrilied Democ racy representing, as it did, the conserv atism, the intelligence of the city, un bought and unpurchaiable, went ahead as business men and chose the city offi cers at a primary election. This primary was called by an executive committee of the Democracy of Americus, unanimous ly chosen by as conservative, as patriot ic and as representative a body as ever assembled within tills state. They did their duty wisely and well. They will do so again. Three gentlemen, Messrs, f.ogan, Williams and Williford, will re tire from the aldermnnio board. In a short time their successors will necessa rily be elected. The people and tho executive commit tee will alike realize the wisdom of the plan adopted last year, and the latter will probably zoon call a primary elec tion. It Is a matter of congratulation that there is no discord—no factional fight among our citizens. The entire con- cinnity of opinion is the selection by the business men of three solid astute pub- liespirited citizens to All the places of the three gentlemen who have so well performed the duties of their office. Tiie Times-Kecoiiheh trusts that it It will not be misunderstood as attempt ing to dictate to the executive commit tee, but simply calls attention to tiie fact that this election Is approaching that the Democracy may begin to cast about for three suitable men to ocenpy tiie positions soon to bo made vacant. Wonders Will Never Cease. The celebrated Tffton Twins, These twins were born inTifton, Indiana, June 24th, 188(1, as will be seen in the cut. There is but one body from armpit to armpit of the other. The union of these two children being formed in center The limbs being located on the side of tho body. The organs of each are sepa rate and distinct. They can be seen at the 10c. musce now in the city. novl4-lwk The Rev. Da, Wilson, lately assis tant minuter of the Episcopal Parish of George’s, Nsw Tork, has joined the Christian Alliance, as it Is called, and will henceforth devote himself to both bodies snd souls aa practised by its faith—cure establishment on forty-fourth atreet. He takes this step because be eUlms that Ms restoration to complete and robust health baa been the result of prayer and unfaltering faith. He, and a certain type of the emotional woman, seem to be alone In the practice of the peculiar rites of this order. "E. W. B." of the Constitution takes a very hopeful view of the sltuatioa in the coining speakership contest, believ ing that Crisp will be the choice on the first ballot. In>p*aklng of Jodgs Crisp he says: “Judge Crisp Is recognized si a conservative; jnst and able man, snd n parliamentarian and presiding offloer equal to Carliite. The old members of the house know that under his guiding hand the democrats will make no mis takes. They will go into the next pres idential campaign with a record that will mean victory. They know the Georgian to be the best man; they know he will make uo mistakes, and for these reasons they will elect Mm.” j !!■■■■■■■■■■ A LIFE’S IllltMA. “Mrs. O'Shea Parnoll (s said to bo dying.” It is a simple cable announce ment, but what a tragedy lies under neath! “All for love, and the world well lost!” But, alas! What a woeful awakening when tho pitiless reality re placed the glamour of Impassioned dreamt We dou’t believe that she whose death-bed drops the curtalr. on the stormy eareer of the great patriot was a bad woman—such fldolity to the last days of a great heart broken must bo part of a noble nature—and when Kitty O'Shea permitted her vivacious mind to be attracted by the genius of the Irish leader, as she reoelved him at her husbands board, and her oultured woman’s fancy to he fascinated by his heroism, and, at last, her impulsive woman’s heart to permit him entrance, with too warm a light In the tender oye, too soft a note In the witching volco—if some kind hand of supernatural power had torn the false veil from a future so alluring but fearful tho unhappy woman would have turned book upon the un happy threshold of a home she was about to darken, and with trembling hands would have laid hold upon the alter of domestio life as to a rock of re fuge in a tempest lashed sea. But she was a weak woman, and her weakness wrought as terribly si Cleopatra's wiok- edncsi—it stained an honest man’s name sod wrecked the brilliant life that be longed to a whole wronged people and an oppressed country.
