Elliott, of Martin county, lost her life two weeks ago, lias had a sad ending, the unfortunate woman’s aged husband lias died of grief. The Elliotts have been living alone in a little farm house several miles from Shoals, auil when tlie house took lire Mrs. Elliott helped lier husband escape from tho building. Seating him on a stone near, she returned to the burning house, against her husband's will, in hopes of rescuing a feather bed, which her son prized very highly. Just as she crossed the threshold of the outer door the roof caved in and partly buried her in the burning timber. Unable to as sist her, tlie aged husband saw his wife slowly roast to death. It was a horri ble sight for tlie feeble old man to be hold, and so greatly was lie overcome with grief that death was the result. The tragedy created a profound sensa tion in Murtin county. Wheeuxq, Nov. 14.—Fritz Yndo, who lives in this city, is a young tuan aliont 35 years of age, weighs 140 pounds, atid is rather slender. He doesn’t look like a man with an abnor mal appetite, but haa demonstrated that he has one, and broke the record in Wheeling by eating in the space of three hours eighteen ordinarv dishes of steamed oysters with “trimmings,” and twenty-four large ham sandwiches, “wishing” each one down with a gloss of beer. He performed the feat in the presence of a large crowd of friends, who paid for the feast. At the finish he appeared fresh, and offered to wager that he could repeat the performance before break fast. Previous to this Mike Filan, of this city, held the championship of Wheeling, having on a wager eaten eighteen dozen shell oysters and a beef steak at one meal. An unknown has challenged Yado to ont-eat him for $25 and the gate receipts. A Forger’. Flight. Indumai-olm, Ind., Nor. 14.—C. M. Genthcr, a young lawyer of Greenfield, and last spring candidate for mayor, left that place a day or two ago secretly and under accusation of heavy forgery, amounting to several thousand dollars. He came from Richmond three years ago, aud within a year and a half mar ried a daughter of Dr. 8. M. Martin, wealthy citizen of Greenfield. His sys tem of forgery was by notes, ho nsing the names of well-to-do citizens for amounts running from $350 to $1,800. Among tlie names thns used were those of his father-in-law and is wile's grand father. Train Find Into. TBnntUt, Oa., Nov. 14.—About 11 o'clock at night, at Wet Cut, about four miles above here, a freight train was fired into several times. It is supposed to be done by the friends of the Hortons, who are now in jail, accused of horning the bridges. Lowered tho Having Record.
