THE AMERICUS DAILY TIMES-RECORDER: BUN DAY, NOVEMBER 15, 1891.
“Uncle Hiram.”
The comedian, Aaron Woodhull, and
bis company will shortly appear here In
his latest success, “Uncle Hiram." The
play is a sparkling yew England come
dy, simple but interesting in plot, be
sides haring all the elements of popu
larity, and is diversified with good sing
ing and dancing. Humor crops out
everywhere in it. The role of Hiram
Homespun introduces an excellent Ver
mont farmer on tho stage. Be Is good,,
and does not overdo the part of a coun
try jay, but acts the farmer enough to
bring down the house every time be
makes a misstep.
Mr, Woodhull has endeavored to cre
ate a new character in the stage farmer
and has succeeded. “Uncle Hiram,"
while shrowd and possessing the good
and manly qualities of “Uncle Josh” in
“The Old Homestead," is more of “the
jay” and consequently creates more fun,
He has all sorts of tricks played upon
him, and every time Woodhull speaks
the audience yells. He is admirably
supported by the comedienne and pro
tean artist, Miss Griswold, a handsome
and talented girl, who captures the
bouse at once with her numerous spe
cialties, German warbling, etc.
"Mothers used to say: “How I dread
the night and the baby’s cough." How
they say: “I fear no more to wake and
get up—I’ve a bottle of Dr. Bull's
Cough Syrup."
Thlncs Not Generally Known.
It is the large proportion of heated
rays which causes the unpleasant sensa
tion to delicate eyes, experienced after
reading, writing or sewing for a consid
erable period by the light of a kerosene
lamp.
The evil is always much greater in any
kind of artificial light than in the com
paratively cool light of day.
Bobbed, as this often Is, of the greater
portion of its seventy per cent, of heated
rays by moist atmosphere and repeated
reflections.
If, therefore, we wish to protect the
eye against the heated rays, we must
pass the light through a substance which
cuts off thejrays to the greatest possible
extent. It is of this substance that the
“Diamond Spectacles” are composed.
Thcssuperiority of the diamond may be
summed up as follows:
1. They are ground with the most pre
cise scientific accuracy.
2. Tho temperature of the diamond
fusion boing lower than tho atmosphere
and the materials preventing the concen
tration of the heated rays are kept
cool, and weakness and disease are pre
vented.
How vital, therefore, it is that in pre
paring to use spectacles only the best
and those approved by scientific author
ity should be selected.
