THE AiViERlOUSS DAILY TIMES-RECORDER: SATURDAY, DECEMBER 5, 1893. IN TWENTY YEARS. AX ALDRRII %N cot TON IS LOWER THAN IT HAS BEEN Vor Twenty *-« U Terribly Short In Tble SMtlon—Ontlook ror ■ Blue la frier* to net Bncoorngtng—Th* Cotton Factor* era not Very *la*a4. Cotton dropped another notch yeiter- pay and Iteeemi that It wl'l never rite ggiio. That the outlook It rather dlscour- aging It not to be dented, and yet farm- en and merchants hare In their very touts a grim determination to retrenob, to economite to the last notch and to win the desperate fight at all hazards. The local market went off a fraction yesterday and everything was at quiet at the tomb. It wtt exceedingly quiet. A TiURt-RKCorDKB reporter Inter viewed a prominent cotton merchant yesterday morning concerning the re ceipts of Amerlcus tbit season and the prospects for a rite In prices—a reaction from the present stagnation In cotton circles. , <M , “Why arc the receipts to very small? 1 was asked. “They are not very small when you take into consideration the amount of cotton raised In the vicinity: Ourcotton. receipts last year were about 08,000 hales, the crop tills’ year U 30 per cent, short. Thirty per cent, now of 03,000 Is 18,000 bales.’ Now take 18,000 : bales from 03,000 and it leaves 43,000 bales as the maximum of our receipts for this year.! 1 “But, will Amertrus receive tbls43,000 bales this year?" “That question is easily answered by referring you to the present receipts and let you draw your own cor elusions can say that from present indications that I believe that before the season Is at an end that the culminating figure wilt be in excess of 43,030. Our ware house facilities are excellent, and taking everything Into consideration the people ol Amerlcus have abundant reasons to feel pride in. her record as a cotton market.” “What about prices*" “They are lower now than anytime within my memory for twenty years, am certain, however, that It will he next thing to an impossibility for them to sink any lower than they are now.” “Is there much ungathered cotton?” “No, the crop is to all practical ends gathered, and not enough remains in the fields to affect In n material measure the present computations of the amount of cotton produced. The staple of cotton Is much superior this year than It has been for years.' ■ Or. I,. A. Guild, Atlanta, Ga., writes: Wm. Sealook, living on my place, had an ugly running ulcer on his arm which or dinary remedies failed to control. As a last resort I placed him on a use of B. B. B. and the ufeer began to heal at once, and effected an entire cure. It is a reme dy well worthy of confidence. nov2l-lm. flood Opening for ■ Live Rian; The Farmers’ Supply Compsny, Ma con, Ga., want a gentleman to represent them at Amerlcus, Ga., to sell fertilizers and snppliea to farmers on time or for cash. This is a reliable concern, and the people would be glad to have them rep. resented here. Of course it will be useless for anyone to apply, for the tmsitiqn unless they thoroughly know, the planers trading Sopie prominent planter of our county who Is renting out bis land for next year may fill the MU. Write* a Card Favoring Further Reduction j , t of IhoTax Bata. To THgTlMKs-REConnm:—From your article under the head of “Fledged to Reform,” in yesterday’s Issue, referring to a reduction of taxes and “reform,” readers would infer that the present city council has been engaged in riotously squandering “the surplus.” Give the devil hts dues. It Is true, our taxes hare been high. What was the cause? Can a community have complete system* of water works and sanitary sewerage, new buildings, new streets tmd parks, with out price? These things cost money. The people elected to have them, and they bare been called upon to foot the bills. That’* alt Now that these things have been about paid for, the people bave a right to ex pect a reduction, and this they have had the the extent of S3 per cent the preient year, and there Is now no good reason why there should not be a further re daction next year. A word about that asphalt pavement which some of the designing councilmeu are trying to “slip up” oo, and have put down “whether or no.” A few week* since a committee from the Amerlcus Manufacturing and Improvement Com pany, consisting of the secretary and treasurer, with five of the directors, all prominent citizens and heavy tax-pay ers, came before our body and aaked that a certain system ot pavement be looked into. At their requesta commit tee was appointed for this purpose The whole matter amounted to so little, that the committee has never made a re port, and I doubt whether they have ever given it a thought since. Suoli Is the history of the asphalt pavement of the city of Amerlcus. The city will doubtless breathe easier this morning after having this “job" uncovered. Amikiiuax.
