S., D» 13. —On# ot tb* moJt remarkable cate* that baa ever come to light in thia state developed in the aopreme cohrt, and aa h result the necks of the ten colored tpen under sen- teuce of death in Laurens county for the murder of Thornton Nance some months ago, will be saved. They were sentenced to bang on Oct. 24, but the attorneys appealed to the supreme court and the motion was to suspend the hear ing in the supreme court and transfer it back to the circuit court. The ground of this motion was the confession of an other colored man, Henry Sober, who was recently arrested, to the effect that he alone was the murderer. His affidavit stated substantially that he was at the Pitta church on the night of the murder; that shortly after the meeting he started to his home and when about a quarter of a mile from the church he was overtaken and as saulted by Nance. Then and there he says he shot Nance and killed him. He says he is not related to any of the con demned men. but feels that it is his duty to make known the facts, in order that innocent men may not suffer on his account. He says, farther, that any statement or statements that other tiersons were implicated ill the killing but himself are false, and concludes Ills affidavit with the statement that, when the tune comes for the trial for hu life, he will give all the details, and show that there was absolutely uoconapiritor. He gave this affidavit to the lawyers to Iw naed as they might think advisnb.e for the sake of humanity. The su preme court decided the motion, and PERSONAL .MENTION. sent the case to the cireoit court for re- heurin; A SCOUNDREL SON. Hakes a Desperate Attempt to Rob Ills Own Mother.
