A MOVEMENT AFOOT TO ESTABLISH
A BRANCH
Ol the Sucletylfor the Prevention of Cm -
elty to Anlmnle In Ain.rtcu.—In.tence#
Whom Dumb Anlmnle Are Subjected to
tho Mod Urnlnl Troetment.
There to a deep-seated movement
afoot In’Ameticus that cannot be other
than fruitful of golden result!. This
movement finds its source In the most
humane sentiment, in a desire to afford
protection to domestic animals when
they are subjeoted to mistreatment.
Incidents are numberless when horses
and mulos have been cruelly and even
brutally treated in Americus. <
Onlyjou (Friday a bookman was seen
by a gentleman to strike hie horse re
peated and severe blows over the face
and head with the butt end of a buggy
wbtp,
Such indefensible cruelty tbould be
punished severely and the perpetrator
made an example of.
A horse was seen standing bn Friday
from nine o’clock until six exposed to
the asperities of tbe bitter cold day,
'Without shelter or tbe semblance of pro*
tectlon against tbe driving rain.
The animal was an animated skeleton,
to say thejleast, and it was worse than
cruelty to expose him to tbe most propi
tious conditions of tbe weather.
There is nothing so reprehensible as
this subjection of defenceless animals to
cruel treatment
Tbe movement to establish this branch
of tbe S. P. C. A. (should be accorded
the warmest and most enthusiastic sup
port. Mr. (Walter Furlow voluntarily
offered to contribute $25 to its mainte
nance, and there it no donbt but that
othera will go as deeply down into their
pockets.
It Is a commendable more, and merits
the strongest exertions to bring it to a
successful termination. Who will be
the pioneer?
