Mr. M. Solomon wishes to return
thanks to the good people of Amerloua
and Sumter county for their liberality

The last meeting of the old council
will occur to-night at 030. A general
review of the work of the year will be
bad and the ceremonies incident ,to the
qualification of three new aldermen will
be another feature.

will, commencing with the 20th, keep
open only from nine to one during the
Christmas holidays.

County court was in active session
yesterday, and the civil docket was
cleared and many cases on the criminal
docket wore disposed of. Judge Plla-
bury will make a clean sweep to-day and
will possibly adjourn court.
The many friends of Dr. J, E. Hall
will regrot to learn of bis serious illness
Dr. Hall has been in uncertain health
for sometime, and his illness is not all
unexpected. His friends hope to see
him out again before many'more days
elapse.
Tbe effects of Harris A Payne weie
consigned to Sheriff Forrest yesterday,
who has been appointed permanent re
ceiver. Harris* Payne are receiving
contracts, however, and hope ere long to
disentangle themselves from their pres
ent embarrassment and open up anew.
The many friends of Kev. J. B John
stone, recently psstor of the First Meth
odist church here, but now of Columbus,
were delighted to greet blm again in our
city yesterday. Mr. Johnstone is highly
pleased with Columbus, but will always
carry a warm place In bis heart for
Americus and her people.
Two officers from Boston, Messrs.
Whitman and Douglas, arrived in Amer
icus yesterday with instructions to carry
Simons to Boston. Whitman left on the
one o’clock train for Atlanta, where he
will get the governor’s signature to the
requisition papers. Mr. Simons has em
ployed attorneys, who will see that hie
