A negro named Robert West, on the
street gang, made a break for liberty
Wednesday, but Mr. Ilalford was too
quick for him and in a race of 300 yard*
captured him. He le now behind the
bars awaiting a bearing on the charge of
trying to escape.

There was * rumor on the streets
yesterday to the effect that the Savan
nah, Ameriotts A Montgomery road and
the Loutivllle A Nashville would
jointly build large shope and round
houses atClIsby’s Park, the present quar
ter* of the Savannah, Amerlcus A Mont
gomery road.* An Advertiser reporter
went over to the park to Investigate the
report and obtained the following facts:
Mr. Darning was not In hi* office, but
his chief elerk kindly gave the Informa
tion. He said that the rumor about the

foundaUou The two roads are on very
friendly terms, but that Is all—at pres
ent any way.
The Savannah, Americus A Mont
gomery has a spur from the main track
to the Western, and they will oome in
over that road to the Union Depot.
The Savannah, Americus and Mont
gomery trains only go as far aa Hurts-
boro on the Mobile and Girard, as there
have lately been several bad breaks be
tween that place and Pittsboro. Several
large cut* have caved in, and about ten
miles of track blockaded, and after to
day no tralns will be run over the road
till alter Christmas. *
The Savannah, Americus and Mont
gomery has the best terminal facilities
of all roads entering the olty. Clltby’s
Park will make them fine yards large
and roomy enough to put everything in
—round houses, stockyards and all,
while in the Nelson property they have
one of the most magnificent piece's of
property in the city.
They say that when the road Is com,
pleted, they will catch all the cotton for
Savannah which has heretofore been
shipped to Americus over the 'Central,
and that tKe pig iron coming from Bes
semer and Birmingham for Baltimore
and New York will be shipped tp Savan
nah over their road —Montgomery Ad,
