SUCCESS ON THE FARM.
It is a hundred times easier to suc
oeed on the farm than in the towns and
cities, bnt the young men and yonng
can have more pleasure along
of town life than in the
countryTnence they go for this reason
to the towns. If the young men and
the men that are raising their boys and
girls would look to the pleasure and
oomfort of the young people, the exo
dus from the farms woald cease. The
only way that an improvement can be
had iu this direction is by conferences,
frequent meetings and general im
provement. Homes must be made at
tractive, instead of a place to sleep and
•at, only to go again to toil. With half
the effort and energy it takes to suc
oeeo in the towns the same individual
would beoome independent on tie
farm.
SOCIETY WOMEN IN POLITICS.
In spite of the fact t itt Tammany
is credited with all kinds of wicked
ness and much of it, fortune seems to
smile on Tammany. The forces ar
rayed against the organization seem
to be working in such a fashion as
to throw votes to its ticket, instead
of takiDg them away. It appears
that the society women of New York
have plunged into the principle cam
paign in behalf of Beth Low, but
their methods of canvassing are not
approved by Mr. Low’s managers.
The ladies held a mass meeting of
their own the other day, and were
addressed by Justice Jerome, but the
address was very different from what
they expected to hear. He told them
iu very plain language that if they
did not want to give Tammany a
lead pipe cinch on the election it
would be well for them to at once
abandon their peculiar style of cam
paign in the tenement,district. Justice
Jerome said:
“The people here have quite as
much pride as you have, and per
haps know more about the issues
of the campaign than you do. You go
down there in your carriage, with your
new fall bannet, and say: ‘We’re so in
terested in good government. You
will have your husband vote for Mr.
Low when he comes home, won’t you?
Here are these tracts. I don’t know
exactly what they are about, but they
will help you some.’ Why, you lose
more votes in tenement houses in a
day thau we can make in a week.” If
Justice Jerome is not careful he will
incur the hostility of the lady politi
cians and run ahead of his ticket.
SCHOOLING NOT AN EDUCATION.
The too common belief that an educa
tion can be acquired from text-books
and from teachers who don’t know any
more than the text-books of the com
mon schools contain, if that, is erro
neous. Every boy and girl should have
a common-school education. The State
provides for that,and therefore expects
it even if it does not always compel it.
But there are other things essential.
A man may have an education and still
not be a respectable,a useful,much less
a valuable member of the community.
On the contrary, there are many mem
bers of the community who have very
little, if any, schooling who are useful
important,honorable. They have been
educated in other ways.

The liability to disease is greatly
lessened when the blood is in good con
dition, and the circulation healthy 7 and
vigorous. Foi then all refuse matter
is promptly carried out of the system ;
otherwise it would rapidly accumulate
fermentation would take place, the
blood become polluted and the consti
tution so weakened that a simple
malady might result seriously.
A healthy 7 , active circulation means
good digestion and strong, healthy
nerves.
As a blood purifier and tonic S. S. S.
has no equal. It is the safest and best
remedy for old people and children
because it contains no minerals, but is
made exclusively of roots and herbs.
No other remedy so thoroughly 7 and
effectually cleanses the blood of itn
iß&k /figs-, purities. At the
same time it builds
U P weak and de
bilitated, and reno
vates the entire sys
tem. It cures permanently all manner
of blood and skin troubles.
Mr. r,. E. Kelly, of Urbana, 0., writes:
“I had Eczema on my hands and face ior
five years. It would break out in little
white pustules, crusts would form and
drop oft, leaving the skin rod and inflam
ed. The doctors did mo no good. I used
alltho medicated soaps and salves without
benefit. S. S. S. cured mo, and my skin
is as clear and smooth as any one’s.**
Mrs. Henry Siegfried, of Capo May, N.

Dear Sirs:
I beg to state that your “Hong-Winded” axle Is a
perfect success, having the advantage over any other long dis
tance axle that 1 have ever seen, in that the oil cannot run tut
on the ground, but must be used up on tfie spindle; and as tha
sand cannot get on the spindle to grind it out. I am sure that
buggies with this axle will not have to have new points nut on
the axles, no matter how long the buggy lasts, The farmeis an
