Some point in southwest Georgia is

and H J. Lamar of Macon, called on
Commissioner of Agriculture O. B.

for a conference on a matter concerning
the establishment of a mammoth pack

company to establish in Georgia, at
the point best sitnated for the purpose,
a mammoth packing house and canning
factory. These establishments* will
purchase all the cattle, frnits, vegeta

already secured the option, he states,

take ten times that amount if it can be
secured.

A SHORTAGE OF FREIGHT CARS.
Roads Are Rushed to Handle Cotton
Shipments.
Americus, like every other market
in south Georgia, has been more or
less affected recently by the scarcity
of freight cars in handling cotton ship
ments, The railroads cannot command
the cars needed, and at several points
cotton remains stacked up in the ware
houses. Those who have been trying
to pat tneir cotton on the market dar
ing the past week have lost consider
able money by the delay, because of
the decline in prices, The difference
in the value of a bale this week as com
pared with last week is; from $1 25 to
$2.50. Therefore, where a man has 100
bales for shipment this decline means
something to him. The railroads are
doing their beet, however, to meet the
demand, and the managers are of the
opinion that the choked condition will
not last a great while.
oAN IMPORTANT DIFFERENCE.
To mike it apparent to thousands,
who think themselves ill, that they are
notafll'cted with any disease, but that
the system simply needs cleansing, is
to bring comfort home to their hearts,
as a costive condition is easily cured by
using Syrup ol Figs. Manufactured by
the California Fig Syrup Co. only, and
sold by all druggists.

AMERIGUS COTTON
RECEIPTS BEHIND.
As Compared With Receipts This Date
Last Year.
A DIFFERENCE OF 4.000 BALES.
Americus Has Received a Total of 17.-
000 Bales to Date Against 21.000
Last Year--Rapidly Closing up Short
age in Total Receipts.
In point of warehouse receipts.
Americus is jnst four thousand bales
behind the receipts at this date last
season, and at the present rate may
eventually oatoh up in the grand total.
A rapid stride in this direction was
made during the month just ended.
Up to last night, October 31st, re
ceipts here were 17,158 bales.
On the corresponding date last sea
son tne warehouses here had a total of
21,164 bales, making a difference of
4.006 bales in favor of last year’s crop,
compared with this one.
The difference is not half so .great as
a month ago. On October Ist. accord
ing to the files of the Times Reoorder,
the receipts ran 9 500 bales behind
those of October Ist last year, so that
it will be seen we have picked up 5.500
bales of the shortage within a month.
Cotton is coming in more freely now
than at this time last year, when the
greater part of the crop had already
been harvested.
As evidence of this, 385 bales were
handled at the warehouses here yester
day against only 115 bales on Ootober
31st last year. By this time last sea
sod Americus had piled up the greater
part of her total, and receipts were
much lighter thereafter.
But the most "painful” difference is
in a comparison of prices. Yesterday
Americus paid 7 cents for the best cot
ton, against 84 cts a year ago, a differ
ence of $8.75 per bale.
A Violent Attack of Croup Cured.
“Last winter an infant ohild of mine
had croup in a violent form,” says El
der John W. Rogers, a Christian Evan
gelist, of Filley, Mo. ‘‘l gave her s
few doses of Chamberlain’s Cough
Remedy and in a short time all danger
was past and the child recovered.”
This remedy not only cures croup, but
when given as soon as tne first symp.
toms appear, will prevent the attack.
It contains no opium or other harmful
substance and may be given as confi
dently to a baby as to an adult. For
sale by all druggists.
