ing on for the reaction that surely will
come.
Many Americus people who witness
ed the Mexican bull fight at the Mont
gomery fair describe it as a very thrill
ing event.
Better get your seats for the Warde
engagement this morning, if you have
not done so already. Tickets will be
in demand.
The old street sprinkler is still work
ing over time, as in July and August
And still there is no indications of
needed rain.
Americus was both long and strong
on mullet yesterday, but the odor just
suited old Cuff and he immediately
went broke.
Lower and lower went the cotton
market yesterday under the influence
of big receipts. How much lower still
is it going ?
Cane grinding is now in order on the
farms about Americus, and “long
sweetening” and cane beer are among
the delicacies.
The royal queen of Autumn, the
chrysanthemum, is in all her glory
now, and the yards about Americus are
indeed beautiful,
Iu trade circles, yesterday might
have been classed as “quiet” for the
fall season. But it is going to be bet
ter bye and bye.
The first partridges of the season
may be offered in market today, if the
gunners who went forth yesterday were
at all successful.
From Flint river on the east to the
Ivinchafoouee on the west, the country
is being flooded with posters abont
Montezuma’s fair.

Jumped On a Ten Penny Nail.
The little daughter of Mr. J. N.
Powell jumped on an u inverted rake
made of ten penny nails, and thrust one
nail entirely through her foot and a
second one half way through. Cham

Trains as Formerly.
It used to be a familiar Baying in
Americus that one could set his watch
accurately by the arrival of the Cen
tral’s passenger trains. But if one did
this now he might even miss catching
up with a funeral pageant. The train
from Macon, due here at 10 p. m. has
been late night after night recently,
while even the noon trains are of times
decidedly “off” on schedule. The
“old reliable” must do better and not
have its excellent reputation injured
in this way.
A RESIDENT OF WEBSTER DEAD.
Dr. Jubilee Smith Has Passed Away
In Savannah.
A telegram from Savannah yesterday
brought information of the death of
Dr. Jubilee Smith, an aged resident
of Webster county and well known in
Americus as well. The deceased was
the father of Mrs. Henry C. Hardy, of
Savannah, and was there upon a short
visit. The body of Dr. Smith reached
Americus yesterday afternoon and was
carried on to the cemetery near his
old home in Webster for interment.
