A Startling Surprise.
Very few could believe in looking at
A. T. Hoadley, a healthy, robust black
smith of Tilden, Ind., that for ten years
he suffered such tortures from Rheu

But a wonderful change followed his
taking Electric Bitters. “Two bottles
wholly cured me,” he writes, “and I
have not felt a twinge in over a year.”

COLUMN FOR COLORED PEOPLE
What Is Being Done Among Those In
Americas.
It is with very much gratitude that
we accept the space given us in the
Times Recorder, one of the leading
journals of southwest Georgia to give to
the public the news concerning our
people. We consider it a great act of
kindness on the part of the proprietor
of this paper. This kindness and o'.h
er similar ones seem to indicate to us
that those among whom we live, those
who are our next-door neighbors that
are able to contribute in any way to
those things resulting in our good,
are always willing.
It appears, therefore, that a good
polioy [upon the part of our people
would be to cultivate the friendship
and good will of those about us.
We are glad to have Dr. E W. Lee,
presiding elder of the Americus Dis
trict, A. M. E. Church, back from
London where he went in the summer
and spent several days in attendance
upon the ecumenical council as dele
gate from his church. He reports j!a
very pleasant trip on the water and a
good time in the great city.
This is the last Sunday for the min
ister s of the A. M. E. Church in and
about Americus before they must re
port at their annual conference which
convenes at Thomasville, Nov. 6,
Bishop Turner presiding. Those who
have spoken to us concerning their re
ports seem to think that they will be,
both spiritually and financially, such
as will meet the approval of the bishop
and conference and bring upon them
greater blessing from above.
Rev. C. H, Young, the much be
loved pastor of Bethenda First Bap
tist Church, is away for a few days at
Nashville, Tenn. conducting a revival
for Dr. Fisher. Rev. White of At
lanta will fill the pulpit at Betfiesda
toda y.
It is very probable that we will
have a colored Presbyterian church in
Americus in a short while. Mr. Cald
well, the Sunday School missionary of
that church, returned Monday night
from the synod held at Newnan, where
he pressed his claims for the estab
lishment of a church here.
There are a good many secret orders
existing among our people. Some are
doing good and some are not, and
among the many that are doing good
we think the K. of P. heads the list.
The members of that order receive $3
per week sick benefits and a death
claim of 8300, This order is a great
blessing to our people. As many as
can ought to join it. It is a nice, cheap
insurance whioh most any poor work
ing man can carry. M. C, Hawkins,
deputy grand chancellor, says he will
soon have a lodge at DeSoto and an
other at the Plains.
The appreciation of Rey. Pickett’s
great sermons at the tent by our people
on the second coming of Christ is evi
denced by the fact that all of the avail
able space provided for ns was taken
every night.
Rev. G. H. Dwelle, a former citizen
of Americus, but now of Augusta, was
in the city Wednesday visiting his old
