The continued high price offered for
cotton by local buyers is of little inter
est here at present, as only 200 or 300
bales remain in the Amerions ware
houses, The market continues to ad
vance slowly, and good cotton would
easily have brought 91 cents here at
any time this week. At the close yes
terday May contracts were steady at
9.57, July 9 54 and August 9 34.

President Erwin ol Plant System May
Be at Head.
Savannah, Ga. April 30.—1 t is repor
ted here that President R. G. Erwin,
of the Plant System, will become
president of the Atlantic Coast Line
Railway Company after the merger of
that road with the Plaut system has
been effected. The rumor comes from
New York and it cannot be substantia
ted here. When he was last in Savan
nah President Erwin made the state
ment that after the merger he would
remain as president of the Plant In
vestment Company aud that he might
wind up the aflairs of that concern, As
t) any further business connection be
might make, however, he then said he
was completely in the dark.

City Employes of Macon Will Get
Weekly Rest.
Atuericns and other Georgia cities
might follow the example of Macon
regarding “more rest” during the dull
summer months. ‘At the meeting of
Macon's council a night or two ago
the recommendation of Mayor Smith
was unanimously adopted that all city
omployos be given half holiday on
Saturdays in those departments where
the public service will not be injured
thereby. The recommendation was
also made that all business concerns
possible in the city observe the Satur
day half holiday.

Americus Party Cross the Rocky
Mountains Today.
Messrs Thomas Harrold and Henry
R, Johnson, Jr. spinta couple of days
in New Orleans en route to thereuaion
at Dallas, and after that was over have
been traveling through northern Texas
and Indian Territory, stopping at sev
eral points until yesterday afternoon,
when they left Dallas for a twenty day
trip to Saoremento, Los Angeles and
San Francisco, going through the
Rockies via New Mexico, Colorado
Utah and Nevada. It will be a delight
ful trip indeed.

Everyone of the twenty-one candi
dates running in the county primary
must pay an “entrance fee” or assess
mout, fixed by Chairman Pilsbury, of
the executive committee, the amount
thus raised to cover 'the expenses of
holding the election. This is the last
lay for paying assessments, and any
candidate who does not settle his pro
rata of costs will have his name
omitted from the official ballot.

son Agency.
Mr. 11. W. Pittman, whose appoiut
ment to the Central’s agency at Daw
son was mentioned several days ago,
left yesterday for that city and enters
at once upon his new duties, Ameri
cus parts with Mr. Pittman with much
regret, and commends him most heart
ily to the people of Dawson.
