WORKING UPON RAILWAY SHOPS
Americus Men Carried In Foroe to
Fitzgerald.
One hundred and ten laborers,
skilled caponters, briokmasons and
ordinury day laborers, left Americus
yesterday for Fitzgerald to work upon
the monster SBOO,OOO shops to be
ereoted there by the Atlantic & Bir
mingham Railroad immediately.
Mr. J. E. Cameron, formerly of
Americas but for several years master
meohanio for the Atlantio A Birming
ham, was in Amerions yesterday
looking after the transportation of the
110 men.
Many others will go from Amerions
to Fitzgerald this week.
Another large foroe will leave here
Sunday next. The railway eompany
wants about 700 laborers and skilled
artisans to rush the building of the
great shop o , and is procuring them
wherever they oan be found. In
Amerions 200 promise to go.
Mr. Cameron does not expect to
secure that full nnmber, of course, but
probably 150 will eventually go there
for work at excellent wages.
Mr. Cameron was told of the wishes
of Americas to be oonneoted with the
Atlantio & Birmingham, and declared
his desire to see that end finally ac
complished. Americas oitizens are in
earnest about it, and will push the
proposition to completion.
Just now Americas could accom
plish no greater stroke of enterprise.
Will our people work, as well as talk
about it.
