WELCOME TO CITY.

Greeted By a Fine Aud ence

ADDRESS IS WELL APPLAUDED
South Georgia Candidate Fuliy Cov
ered the Issues in Gubernatorial
Campaign—Hon, T. G. Morgan Fol
lows in Eloquent Speech.
Hon. J. H. Estill was welcomed
*
to Americas yesterday by an enthusi
aß ic audience of several hundred citi
zens of both town and oounty, who
heard his tinging address in the inter
est of true democracy aud cheered the
sentiment therein expreFsed.
The reception was as sincere as it
was cordial and enthusiastic, and 00l
Estill has cause to feel proud of his
first visit to Americas and the warm
friends made in bis coming.
Everyone knew his splendid record
and his position upon public issues,
but the opportunity to hear his own
enunciation thereupon and to meet face
to face the honest and sincere man who
expressed them, but cemented this
friendship.
And Sumter's citizens are glad to
have thns met Col. Estill.
Duriug the morning hours many
prominent citizens called upon Col.
Estill at The Windsor and expressed
pleasure at his coming here.
At 11 o’clock Col. Estill addressed
the people at the opera house.
The distinguished visitor was graoe
fully presented to his audience of sev
eral hundred citizens by Mr. Z. S.
Childers, and after a few pleasantries
he launohed forth into his address of
forty minutes upon the gubernatorial
campaign.
In this he held the olosest attention
of his large andience, among them
quite a number of ladies.
The speaker was in good voioe, and
his remarks covered fully and com
pietely every issue brought before the
people, He was, he said, not a lawyer
but simply a business man waging a
campaign in the interest of the entire
people.
Ha did not think it the province of a
Governor of Georgia to make new laws,
as some of his opponents threaten, bat
if eleoted he would carry into the offii e
the same business acumen exercised in
his own afiairs, and see that the laws
are enforced.
Col Estill dwelt at length upon the
disfranchisement danger.
The greatest mistake, he said, was
the passage cf the 14 h aud 15th
amenr monts, giving the ballot to the
negro, but it was now a pari of the
constitution of the United States and
could not be changed by us. The white
primary he said, is our only safegnard
This, be stated, gave the whites com
plete control of the ballot and was en
tirely safe as well as legal. But wi h
the educated negro, ballot iu hand to
deal with, he would be the balance of
power and a lasting menace to the
safety of the country.
Col. Estill had no fear of negro dom
ination under present conditions with
the primary as our safeguard against
such domination.
He thought if let alone the negro
would eventually leave the state,
orowled out by the ingress of foreign
whites, and thns the labor problem
and well as the political situation
would be happily adjusted.
Even now, said, 2,000
Turkish Greeks are iu Florida, and
these, with other desirable laborers,
would take the plaoeof the negro as he
went north or to the wes*, as he is now
rapidly drifting
Another great danger pointed out by
the speaker was the force bill. With
the ballot taken from the negro—the
unelncited negro—northern fanatic 3
and negrophiles will demand the force
bill as an insulc to the South at no dis
tant day.
Just now,he said, they were too busy
with the Philippine row, the insurance
steal and other things, but ere long
more money will] be sent to educate
and enfranchise the negro.
For even Hoke Smith cannot disfran
chise the educated negro. (Vnd wou'd
not, if he could.)
“We know the negro better than does
th? nortbener,” Mr Estill said, “Let
“Panamas.”

us be just to him, and thns maintain
forever a white republic.’'
001. Estiil expressed himself strong
ly in favor of educating the masses of
our white population. Tbero should
be a schoolhouee at tvary o < saroade
where as many as a doztn children
could be assembled, and these country
sohools should be ts the b;st.
He favors a .noe cf ihe edu
cation of the negro u j the e 4 ate is now
doing it. “Let ns educate them our
way, for if we do no 1 , the north will
educate them thtir way ”
Col. Estill expri Feed himself fa ly
upon the railroad qieetiOD aßd upon
corporations. Build more railroads,
he said, and thus develop the country.
Georgia’s admirable rad oid commis
sion was a dependable eafeguard for
the people.
In conclusion Col. Estill declared
that, if elected eov rn he will en
force the constitutional laws of Geor
gia and see to it that ail get a square
deal, and that when people are put in
the penitentiary for crime that they
be kept there.
His remark- 1 were fr qiently and
loudly applauded, and his address
npon the whole created a very flue
impression.
Hon. Thomas S. Morgan followed
Col. Eitill in one of the most brilliant
address*s ever delivered in Americas.
He touched upon every issue in the
campaign and in a masterly and foroe
ful manner discussed the political sit
uation.
Mr. Morgan is an eloquent speaker,
and his advocacy of Col. Eatill’s candi
dacy is strong and pointed and a yote
winner withal.
HIDDEN DANGERS
Nature Gives Timely Warnings That
No Americus Citizens Can
Afford to Ignore.
DANGER SIGNAL NO 1 comes
from the kidney secretions, They will
warn you when the kidneys are sick.
Well kidneyß excrete a clear, amber
fluid. Sick kidneys send out a thin,
pale and foamy or a thick, red, ill
smelling urine, full of sediment and
irregular of pas*a -e.
DANGER SIGNAL NO, 2 comes
from the back. Back pains dull and
heavy, or sharp and acute, tell you of
Bick kidneys and warn you of the com
ing of dropsy, diabetes and Brights
disease. Doan’s Kidney Pdls cure sick
kidneys and cure them permanently.
Here’s Americus proof:
A. A, Willitt, a well known farmer
living just outside of Americus, eays:
“I believe that your pills are all that is
claimed for them. I had kidney trouble
and baokache, from which I had been
a sufferer fer many year. Af.er lying
or sitting in any one position for any
length of time I could hardly get up on
account of the dull heavy pain in the
small of my back, At times I seemed
almost to lose the use of my back, and
would have to hold to something for
support. Tne kidney secretions were
disordered, being dark, full of sediment
and of strong odor. used many differ
ent remedies, but with out much «.f any
benefit until I got Doan’s Kidney Pille,
Since using them my back feels stronger.
The pain has left P, and the kidney
secretions have also been restored to a
normal condition. You are welcome to
use my Dame as a reference.”
