The pain and suffering which he en

No League Ball Is Ilajed

J. PLUVIUS HELD THE DIAMOND

But Nothing Doing Yesterday on
the Ball Field.
The boys of the S’ate League sat
upon the water wagon yesteiday and
watched Japiter Pluvms make a'l the
base hits and soore victory in ail the
bail fields in whioh they would have
reqaired gondolas capped with um
brellas had a gimi beeu played.
It was a complete shat out in Oolam
bag and in A bany.
In the game at Valdosta, between the
team of that city and Waycross, the
latter won by a soore of 8 to 3.
Wistfally the ball toesers, like fbet
coursers tethered, looked out upon the
rain soaked diamond npon whioh they
had hoped to achieve victory over the
opposing hosts.
But there was nothing doing—except
raining—for our team.
Thns Americus failed to play two
games with Columbus—Thursday and
Friday—bnt hopes for clearer tkies
this afiierncon. Cordele missed yes
terday one game of the series with Al
bany, while Valdosta and Waycross
alone palled off a game.
The opening of the State League
season, therefore, is unpropitious.
If the weather is good this after
noon—Americus will try conclusions
with Colnmbus, Oar team is in ex
cellent trim and only wants a chance
toohase the snipes of the valley.
Americus will “play ball” every day
next week. Columbas comes here
Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday,
while the Waycross lineup will be
seen on our diamond Thursday, Fri
day and Saturday. Plenty of ball and
all in a lump.
The Amerious team will return from
Columbus tomorrow morning.
