BUILDING A GREATER AMERICUS
What other small city in Geor
gia has made greater strides in
recent years—very recent years—
than has Americus, and what city
has a brighter future? The Times-
Recorder points with pardonable
pride to what already has been ac
complished, and would impress
upou our people the fact chat this
era in her development has but
just begun. While her citizens
of wealth have done their Dart in
fostering her interests, the man of
more modest means is by no means
in the back ground in building a
greater Americus.
Special reference is made to the
citizen who is imbued with what
we call public spirit.
He may not be and generally is
not a man of great wealth, but he
is the hope of his community, lie
always stands up for his town.
He believe in it and takes ad
vantage of every opportunity to
make others believe in it also.
If any one suggests a good thing
for Americus he is willing to push
it along. He is for every new im
provement and is always willing
to pay his and some other fellow’s
share to make it a success. He
wants his city to have the best of
everything and is willing to work
for it. He makes every stranger
he meets regret that he lives else
where. He is the stream of pure

air which keeps the cistern from
becoming stagnant and foul.
He may not be a rich man or a
prominent one, but he is better
thau either, and often does more
good for the town in which he
lives than both of them
A dozen such men, with very
limited means, do more to benefit
their town thau twice as many rich
men who are without public spirit.
Oue knows that it is a habit with
some to put a light value on the
talker who is not ‘solid’ financially,
but uot s ) with the thinking man.
Whenever you find a public
spirited community you find pro
gress, and cities are like persons,
they must either go forward or
backward; they cannot stand still.
The men who made Chicago the
wonder of cities were not wealthy
men—on the contrary they were
generally poor—but they had
broad ideas and believed in Fort
Dearborn, talked it up, expatiated
on its advantages and future
greatnees until they made others
believe as they did, and Chicago
is the result.
Take another instance —Atlanta.
So far as any one can see, Atlanta
has no advantage over numerous
other places in Georgia except it
had certain citizens there thirty
years ago who talked it up to
every new arrival. The spirit be
came catching. Every one in At
lanta caught this spirit and a
beautiful and important city is the
result.
The Americus physicians ought
to import this bacilli of public
spirit in large quantities and do a
good deal of compulsory vaccina
tion. If it Took’ the result would
startle this old town, which has so
many natural advantages, and
which needs public spirit only to
make it a great city. If Americus
had one tenth as much public
spirit as Atlanta, we know of no
city where one could do better
than right here.
She would take on a growth
equalled only by the most pro
gressive Western cities, where
every one who is willing to work
counts upon accumulating a com
petence and many of them great
we.lth before reaching middle
life.

BLOOD > PURIFIERS! |
No other remedy has given such perfect satisfaction as a P|j wltwlrlvj j
blood purifier and tonic or is so reliable in the cure of blood dis- g|j 7112 GREAT „
eases of every character as S. S. S. It is known as “The lllffl BLOOD. PURIFfEft.-Jj|
King of Blood Purifiers,” and the secret of its success and f |p|j Z?"Z'S'Z
its right to this title is because “IT CURES DISEASE.” 1 l|fl i
It is an honest medicine, made entirely of purifying, healing \ mg' ' TIK h i

diseases arising from an impure or poisoned condition of the blood * *&*'**««*'
and possessing tonic properties that act gently and admirably in the up-building of a run
down, weakened or disordered condition of the system.
One of the greatest points in favor of S. S. S. is that it is the only blood remedy on the
market which does not contain a mineral ingredient of some kind to derange or damage the
system.* It is the one medicine that can be taken with absolute safety by the youngest child
or the oldest member of the family, and persons who have allowed their systems to get in
such condition that most medicines are repulsive to the stomach will find that S. S. S.,
while thorough, is gentle and pleasant in its action, and lias none of the nauseating effects
of the different mineral mixtures and concoctions offered as blood purifiers.
As every part of the body is dependent on the blood for nourishment and strength, it is
necessary that this vital fluid be kept free from germs and poisons. So long as it remains
uncontaminated we are fortified against dis-
ease, and health is assured; but any impurity,
humor or poison acts injuriously on the sys- ,
tern and affects the general health. Pus
tular eruptions, pimples, rashes and the i
different skin affections show that the blood J
is in a feverish and diseased condition as a
result of too much acid or the presence of
some irritating humor. Sores and Ulcers are the result of morbid, unhealthy matter in the
blood, and Rheumatism, Catarrh, Scrofula, Contagious Blood Poison etc., are all deep-seated
blood disorders that continue to grow worse as long as the poison remains.
But all blood diseases are not accpiired; some persons are born with an hereditary taint
in the blood and we see this great affliction manifested in many ways. The skin has a
waxy, pallid appearance, the. eyes are often weak, glands of the neck enlarged, and as the
taint has been ii} the blood since birth the entire health is usually affected.
In all blood troubles S. S. S. has proved itself a perfect remedy and has well earned the
title of “KING OF BLOOD PURIFIERS.” It goes down into the circulation and removes
all poisons, humors, waste or foreign matter, and makes this stream of life pure and liealth-

ease is left to break out in future years or to be transmitted to offspring. If you are in

Gentlemen:—S. S. S. is used as a family medicine in our
home. I myself have taken and always found it what it is
claimed to be. It thoroughly cleanses the system of im
purities, increases the appetite, improves the digestion,
and builds up the general health. I have given it to my
children with fine results. It promptly restores the appe
tite and clears the skin of all eruptions. It is a very fine
blood tonic and has my hearty endorsement.

sustaining. Nothing reaches inherited blood
troubles like S. S. S.; it removes every particle
of the taint, purifies and strengthens the weak,
deteriorated blood, and supplies it with the
healthful properties it needs and establishes the
foundation for good health. As a tonic this
great medicine has no equal, and it will be found
especially bracing to weak, anaemic persons.
