WILL PRESS SALE OF COTTON
Repo ted That Banks Suggest That
• Plan.
The “beat” element in the cottcn
trade look for easier prices if correct
is the report that the hanks generally
over “the belt” insist upon a sale of
cotton upon which they have made
advances. From Savannah comes the
report that several of the banks there
which have money oat on cotton,
either directly or through conntry
banks, are preparing to recommend
to the interior that cotton be “cashed
in,” rather than be held fora farther
advance. It is known that a consider
able amount cf cotton is being held
for 15 cents, and it is said that banks
which have money oat on each lines
will insist that they be repaid, even if
the cotton mast be thrown apon the
market. It is pointed oat by the banks
that within less than ninety days the
new crop will be ooming on the market,
which will, of course, tend to reduce
the value of the old stock. It is the
plea of the banks that they do not care
to ran the risk of the deterioration of
their securities which they allege d may
result.

HAULING OUT FIELD LABORERS
Farmers are Giving Employment to
Many Here
Several wagons filled with town ne
groes left Amerious early yesterday
morning for the grassy fields of Sam

mnch needed. Just now this labor is
required to fight grass in the ootton
fields, which has oome np since the
rains of ten days ago, as well as to
chop the yonng cotton to a stand Al
ways at this season there is a demand
for this extra day labor, and while it is
scarce and difficult to control the situa
tion here at present is not so bad, per
haps, as in former years. There are
plenty of idle bands here in the city—
enongh to cnltivate every farm in the
