NEWS OF THE GAME,

SCORE STOOD ONE TO SEVEN
Americus Came Near Shutting Out
Crisp Countians in Monday's Game.
Lavefnder Sustains His First Defeat
of the Season.
When the news came yesterday that
Americas had wellnigh annihilated the
Cordeie bunch in the first game there
older citizens called to mind the first
Cleveland electior, atd compared
the wild enthusiasm then with the
superior quality uncorked yesterday.
Seven to one was the score, and for
the first time’ this season Lavender
folded his flag in defeat.
Columbus, Waycross and Valdosta
had tried in vain to knock him out.
Even poor Albany, with the bad j idg
ment of a dunghill domineeker
against a eame cock, tried it also.
But Americas, with MrKaigbt in the
box, handled Lavender the sk*te6
Through the seventh innitg the Cor-
I deleans were shut oui entirely, the
score standing seven to one io favor of
American. Paralysis had seized the
body corporate of Cordeie in the mean
while, and in the next five innings
they managed to score one run.
It was indeed a great v c ory for the
quondam ceilarites. Bat tbe team is
playing Dali now.
Some new timber was put in jester
day and Americus team strengthened a
bit. McKoight did good work acd
Cordeie got only three bits est bim.
Whalen and Davenport aited as um-
pires, one representing each club,
there being no umpire present.
