Holloway bad been on the gang less
than six hoars ere he got his release.
The negro with another, Charlie
Prather, was oonvioted in the superior
court Friday npon the charge of for
gery and sent np for a year. Yester
day morning Holloway went to work
with the £aDg.
The day was very warm and this
fact, together with long confinement iu
jail, probably proved too much for
Holloway although the work assigned
was not arduous, The verdict of the
coroner's jury was to iflLct that death
resalted from sunstroke.
Holloway is the second oonviot thus
dying here recently, another

First Methodist church at 11 o’clock

suspended. And a host will thns honor
the fair graduates today.

wise the great auditorium will be filled
to its capacity.

Session of School Closing
This Week
ATTENDANCE IS LARGEST EVER
Exarcises at Opera House a Feature
of Greatest Interest —Nearly 1,400
Pupils Attend the Schools This
Year—Will Close Wednesday.

The Americus public schools will
close Wednesday at neon, after per
haps the most Euccessful session tiace
their establishment. Written exami
nations will be finnbed daring the
next two daje, and on Wednesday the
doors close until September next.
Fourtein hundred pupils attended
the publio schools this year, this beiner
the high water mark reached, although
frequently in recent years the attend
ance reached 1350.
But the cumber of pupils in the
schools is constantly growing.
As already stated, the examinations
in all the departments will take plaoe
duriog the next three dayp, aud are
open to the public desiring to witness
the progress and < ffioiency of the hun
dreds of pupils.
The graduation exercises will take
place at the opera house Wednesday
evening, when twenty-five graduates
will be awarded diplomas. Owing to
the unusually large number,s only six
members of the class will take a very
prominent part in the exercises.
These will be Mies Jtffia Fersonp,
valedictorian; Miss Gertrude Jossey,
salutatorian, Miss Constance Holt,
Miss Nannie Sue Bell, Miss Emmie
Glover and Mr. John T. Clark.
Miss Bell is class historian, while
Miss Glover reads the class propheoy.
These iuterestiug exercises will, of
course, be open to the public, and the
capacity of the theatre will be taxed to
its utmost. A band of mueio will be en
gaged for the occasion, and the 00m*
menoement exercises for 1906 olass will
be a memorable event.
The closing exercises of the colored
schools will take plaoe at the opera
house as usual upon the evening fol
lowing, when a large class will be
awarded diplomas.

behaved town in Georgia. With the
vast multitude here yesterday there

two of the strongest clubs in the league.

Musical Event of Interest at Opera
House.
The Americus School of Music will
have its first annual closing exercises
at the opera house this week, and an
occasion of surpassing interest will it
be. Owning to the very large number
of pupils Prof. E. H. McNeill, the
gifted instructor, finds it necessary to
have two concerts, that on Monday
night participated in by the younger
pupilp, with the more advanced ones in
Tuesday’s recital. Elaborate programs
are arr&Dged for both occasions, to
which the people of Americus are oor
dially invited.

property not returned for taxation will
