JUST CORPORATION REGULATION
Virginia’s Senator Believed to Be in a
Receptive Mood So Far as the
Presidential Nomination
is Concerned.
Washington, D. C., May 29 —Senator
Daniel has been induced to set forth a
sort of platform in an interview pub
lished here. He explicitly denies that'
he Is seeking the nomination, but his '
talk is that of a man who is in a recep- I
tive mood. A few months ago it would
not have been possible to get a South
ern man of his prominence to take the |
thing seriously enough to go so tar. j
He says, in part:
“In the wholesome condition of
public feeling that has come to pass, I
think the ticket should be composed of
men according to their merit and avail
ability without regard to the section
from which they come. There are no
sections of this country at present with
respect to the great economic questions j
we have to deal with.
“I think the National Democratic:
platform should enunciate broad, gener
al Democratic principals, and be con
fined to those things upon which the
Democrats are generally agreed. Such
a platform would, of course, include
fair and just regulation of the eorpor- '
ations engaged in inter-State commerce.
It would not entertain any proposition j
for the United States to own the roads
or the vehicles engaged in transpor- j
tation.
“What the far distant future may
bring, no man can say, but such a j
proposition is the reversal of democracy
and the despair of the Republic. More
over, it diverts the mind from the pro
gressive regulation of those thing's
which are within the constitutional
powers of Congress, and which meet
with approbation of prudent men.
“With respect to the tariff, a
judicious revision, not a wrecking nor
a doctriuare revision, would best meet
the fair public sentiment on the subject
and the conditions which are to be
dealt with.”

In a bacK room down on Cotton ave
nue a barrel full of bottled cocoa
cola remained untouened yesterday,
the bottles of liquid floating about
among little melting icebergs like
corks upon a millpond. Peeling confi
dent that Amerieus would defeat
Shellman in the ball game Tuesday a
party of friends at home prepared to
give the returning heroes an ovation
[ that night, with bottled “cocoa” as the
> piece de resistance. The liquids were
in frozen readiness, when came the
startling announcement that Amerieus
had been shellod by the Shellmans, a
shell game, in fact. Then the “coir
mittee” presiding over the liquidical
feast conferred. “What’s the use”
they said; and forthwith put out the
lights and went home. But perhaps
the cocoa can be used Tuesday in
drinking to the success of the Ameri
cas twirlers.

A Lazy Liver
May be only a tired liver, or a starved
liver. It would be a stupid as well aa
savage thing to beat a weary or starved
man because he lagged in his work. So
In treating the lagging, torpid liver it is
a great mistake to lash It with strong
drastic drugs. A torpid liver is but an
indication of an ill-nourished, enfeebled
body whose organs are weary with over
work. Start with the stomach and allied
organs of digestion and nutrition. Put
them In working order and see how
quickly your liver will become active.
Dr. Pierce’s Golden Medical Discovery
has made many marvelous cures of "liver
trouble" by Its wonderful control of the
organs of digestion and nutrition. It re
stores the normal activity of the stomach,
increases the secretions of the blood-mak
ing glands, cleanses the system from poi
sonous accumulations, and so relieves the
liver of tho burdens imposed upon It by
the defection of other organs.
If you have bitter or bad taste in the morn
ing, poor or variable appetite, coated tongue,
foul breath, constipated or Irregular bowels,
feel weak, easily tired, despondent, freuuent
headaches, pain or distress in " small of back,’
gnawing or distressed feeling In stomach,
perhaps nausea, bitter or sour "risings” In
throat after eating, and kindred symptoms
of weak stomach and torpid liver, no medi
• cine will relieve you more promptly or cure
you more permanently than Doctor Pierce’s
Golden Medical Discovery. Perhaps only
a part of the above symptoms will be /resent
at one time and yet point to torpid liver or
biliousness and weak stomach. Avoid all
hot bread and biscuits, griddle cakes and
other Indigestible food and take the "Golden
Medical Discovery ” regularly and stick to Its
use until you are vigorous and strong.
The "Discovery” is non -secret, non-alco
holic. is a glyceric extract of native medici
nal roots with a full list of its ingredients
printed on each bottle-wrapper and attested
under oath. Its ingredients are endorsed
and extolled by the most eminent medical
writers of the age and are recommended tc
cure the diseases for which it is advised.
