WOMEN TO WADE FOR
POLITICAL PRIZE
One -Who Goes Deepest With
out Wetting Skirts Wins.
CLEVELAND, OHIO. August _lO. —
The Republican League is being at
tacked from all sides because it has
arranged odd contests for women
at-its picnic, to be held on August 24
They are beauty competitions, in
cluding beautiful forearm match and
the wading race, the latter coming in
for most of the complaint.
Churchmen, club women, religious
societies and other bodies have criti
cised thre program, especially the
wading contest., It is to be held in
an improvised pool of clear water.
The farther from the bank a con
testant wades the deeper the water.
The prize goes to the contestant who
wades farthest without wetting her
skirts.
Opera glasses will be at a prem
ium.
The league gave a picnic last year
that was attended by 20,000 persons,
and with added interest which the
wading contests will arouse it is
expected fully 50,000 will be on hand
this year. Its possibilities as a draw
ing card are incalcuable.
The Limit of Life.
The most eniment medical scien
tists are unanimous in the conclu
sion that the generally accepted lim
itation of the human life is many
years below that attainment possible
with the advanced knowledge of
which the race is now possessed. The
critical period, that determines its
duration, seems to be betwen 50
and 00; the proper care of the body
during this decade cannot be too
strongly urged; carelessness then be
ing fatal to longevity. Nature’s best
helper after 50 is Electric Bitters,
the scientific tonic medicine that revi
talizes every organ of the body. Guar

MONEY FOR SCHOOLS
WILL BE RAISED
Additional Taxation Will Make
' i up Losses Sustained.
The present public school fund is
$1,780,500, in round numbers, includ
ing the direct levy of $1,00,000. Next
year the liquor tax, amounting now to
$242,000 probably a part of the poll
tax, on account of disfranchisement,
and most of the fertilizer tax will be
lost to this fund, but the direct appro
priation will probably be increased to
$1,825,000 for 1908 and $2,000,000 for
1909, and in 1910, if the convict lease
system is continued, the increased re
ceipts from that source, added to all
other moneys going into the fund,
will probably raise the public school
fund to $2,500,000 or more.

ANOTHER WONDER OF SCIENCE.
lilology lih.n Proved Ilia. Dandruff Is
Caused by a Germ.
Science is donig wonders these days In
medicine as well as in mechanics. Since
Adam lived, the human race has been
troubled with dandruff, for which no hair
preparation has heretofore proved a suc
cessful cure until Newbro’s Herplcide was
put on the market. It is a scientific prep
aration .hat kills the germ that makes
dandruff or scurf by digging into the
scalp to get at the root of the hair, where
it saps the vitality; causing itching scalp,
falling hair, and finally baldness. With
out dandruff hair must grow luxuriantly.
It Is the only destroyer of dandruff.

BY STORM OF WIND
Services Must Be Held Else
where Today.
/l'lie fierce windstorm which came
up quite suddenly yesterday afternoon

The tent was blown down and rip

Several of the poles supporting the
water-soaked canvas snapped and
fell, and the mass of cloth and poles
came to the ground in a promiscuous
! heap.
Several men who were working to
save the tent narrowly missed being
1 caught in the collapse.
Nothing could be done last night
1 towards making repairs, and the tent
services announced elsewhere in the
Tinies-Recorder for the afternoon and
- night will be held at First Methodist

SIOO REWARD, SIOO,
The readers of this paper will be
. pleased to learn that there is at least
, one dreaded disease that science has
been able to cure in all its stages, and
that is Catarrh. Hall's Catarrh Cure
is the only positive cure now known
to the medicinal fraternity. Catarrh
being a constitutional disease, re
requires a constitutional treatment.
Hall's Catarrh Cure is taken internal
ly, acting directly upon the blood and
mucous surfaces of the system, there
by destroying tho foundation of the
disease and giving the patient
strength by building up the constitu
tion and assisting nature in doing its
work. The proprietors have so much
faith in its curative powers that they
f . offer One Hundred Dollars for any
case that it fails to cure. Send for
