ROADS NOT BUYING UP
TIES AT PRESENT
Ealling Off in Demand
v Noticed.
RESULT OF UGHT ON RAILROADS
Adverse Legislation Which Threatens
to Wreck and Ruin Georgia
Railroads May Be Respon
sible Therefor.
4t is said that a sudden falling off
in the purchase of crossties by the
Georgia railroads has caused some
comment among those who manu
facture ties and those who are in
terested in the growth of the state,
While just as many ties are being
shipped to Northern roads, they are
not selling any to the state roads.
A tie contractor discussing the
situation yesterday said:
“It might be the result of the ad
verse legislation that has just been
passed by the Legislature. The
roads are not too poor now, but
there is no telling how poor they will
be before they get through paying
the state exorbitant taxes, which the
Legislature seems disposed to make
them pay.
“There may be other reasons, but
this one looks like the most plausi
ble to me.
“As a matter of fact the railroads
don’t know where they are, and
before they get through paying the
state the taxes provided for they
may know less than they do now. All
of the second grade ties have been
heretofore sold to the state roads,
but they are not even buying them
now.”
The cutters of second grade ties
have stopped the work for the
present.

The readers of this paper will be
pleased to learn that there is at least
one dreaded disease that science has
been able to cure in all its stages, and
that is Catarrh. Hall’s Catarrh Cure
is the only positive cure now known
to the medicinal fraternity. Catarrh
being a constitutional disease, re
requires a constitutional treatment.
Hall’s Catarrh Cure is taken internal
ly, acting directly upon the blood and
mucous surfaces of the system, there
by destroying the foundation of the
disease and giving the patient
strength by building up the constitu
tion and assisting nature in doing its
work. The proprietors have so much
faith in its curative powers that they
offer One Hundred Dollars for any
case that it fails to cure. Send for

VOTE IN COUNTY WAS
BARELY SIX HUNDRED
*No Interest in Election
Whatever.
' ANOTHER MAY BE CALLED SOON
EJpon Proposition That Citizens Gen
erally Did Not Understand Bond
Issue-Vote is Consoli
dated.
*
f
Just six hundred and ten votes
were cast in the county on Thursday
in the bond election, while exactly
one thousand registered and qualified
voters remained away from the polls
upon that occasion and did not vote
for or against bonds.
1 Such was the suprising fact
brought to light yesterday when
tile county vote was consolidated.
In this consolidation it was shown
that a total of 619 votes of a total
’ registration of 1606 were cast. Os
this number the vote for and against
bonds was as follows:
1 For road bonds 504; against road
- bonds 96. For college bonds 509;
against college bonds SI.
From these figures it is clearly
- evident that there was no real op
• position to the bond issue, else those
opposing it would have come to the
'polls and so expressed themselves.
' As it was, more than 1,000 voters
1 did not come out at all.
s Evidently, the proposition was not
fully understood.
The subject of calling another elec
-5 tion within thirty "days is being gen
- erally discussed among citizens of
r the town and county as well.
If a thousand voters remained away
from the polls, and did not vote for
l or against bonds, surely the propo
» sition must have been misunderstood
i by a great many. Perhaps if ano
ther eleettiou is held the result would
be materially changed.
Whether or not this will be done
has not been determined.
1 The Limit of Life.
The most eniment medical scien
’ tists are unanimous in the conclu
sion that the generally accepted lim
itation of the human life is many
j years below that attainment possible
f with the advanced knowledge of
£ which the race Is now possessed. The
critical period, that determines its
duration, seems to be betwen 50
and 60; the proper care of the body
during this decade cannot be too
’ strongly urged; carelessness then be
ing fatal to longevity. Nature’s best
helper after 50 is Electric Bitters,
the scientific tonic medicine that revi
talizes every organ of the body. Guar

FARMERS ARE SENT
TO JAIL BY JUDGE
For Failure to Appear m Court
On Time.
Judge Shipp of the city court of
Moultrie is a brother of Col. J. E. D.
Shipp of Americus, and insists al
ways upon maintaining the dignity
of his court. A day or two ago he
ordered J. A. Richter and C. D. Rich
ter, two prominent farmers living
in that county, to jail for sixty days
each for failing to attend court as
witnesses for the state in a case
pending in the city court. The
charge was only a misdemeanor, but
Judge Shipp thought these parties
were trifling with the court, and they
are now in the county jail, serving
out their time.
