You May Not Think Os It,
But it Does
make a bier difference to you who makes the clothes you |
wear; especially if the maker is willing to tell you what |
he makes them of; and how.
That’s one thing we like about Hart SchaffnerA fe
Marx clothes; they are made of strictly all-wool fabrics y
and the makers seem to want everybody to know it.
They advertise the fact extensively; it’s ihe most impor
tant tact about any clothes.
They are plenty of good looking clothes for sale that
are not all-wool, the makers don't claim that they are;
they don’t say much about it.
We like to sell clothes that our customers can be
positive about; goods that you don’t have to take any
body’s word for; clothes you know are good. It’s easy
to sell such clothes; and the’re a satisfaction to
everybody.
It isn’t simply that we sell Hart Schaffner & Marx
clothes that you find it worth while to buy your things
here.
That’s a pretty good reason; but there are others.
We’ve a lot of things that men wear, that are worth
having too. If you havn’t found out that this store is
the headquarters for quality stuff, you’ve got something
coming to you.

TAFT STIRS UP
OKLAHOMA
Great Crowds Gather to Meet
The Secretary.
OKLAHOMA CITY, 0K1,A., Aug
ust 24. —Amid the blare of brass
bands, the stirring strains of martial
music, and the huzzas of enthusiastic
crowds, Secretary Taft reached this
ciy today for the purpose of speaking
at the formal opening of the Republi
can state campaign. The speech
making takes place tonight in Con
vention hall, but a parade, reception
and other features made the entire
day one of interest.
Secretary Taft was met at the de
pot by a special reception committee
and escorted to the Threadgill hotel,
where an informal reception was
held, hundreds of Republicans calling
to shake hint by the hand.
Tonight's demonstration, in point
of numbers and enthusiasm promises
to far outrank any demonstration of
like character ever held in this sec
tion. All morning great crowds of
people from the surrounding country
poured into the city, while every
train brought in large numbers from
all over the two territories. Practi
cally every Republican leader of
prominence is here,, including all of
the candidates for state office.
Oklahoma City expected a big crowd
and had prepared to entertain. The
entire business portion of the city is
handsomely decorated with flags,
hunt ing and banners, and presents a
gala appearance.

MACON, OA., August 24.—The hold

bonds were much disappointed to
day. The directors of the road at a
meeting held here failed to declare a
dividend upon that class of securi
ties. A dividend of 5 per cent was
[ declared on the first preferred In

This amounts to a dividend of SSO for
f each bond and $37.29 on each bond on
J the seconds. The amount paid out
; for dividends on the firsts will be
$200,000 and on the seconds $261,030.
The total amount to be paid out in
dividends will be $461,030.

POLICE CHIEF CARRIES KEYS
EO WESTERN UNION TEL. OEEICE IN AMERICUS.
Doors Closed By Order of Superintendent-Strike Situation Acute-Office
May Soon Be Opened,
With doors sealed tight and spid
ers spinning webs over the keyhole,
the office of Western Union in Ameri
cus is as quiet as a country cemetery.
The doors were shut yesterday by
order of the company and keys
turned over to the chief of police.
Chief Feagin, therefore, is custodian
of the Western Union office here, and
will hold down the job of carrying the
keys until the company sends an op
erator to relieve him.
This unexpected denouement in the
strike situation came yesterday, and
caused no little surprise in local cir
cles telegraphic.
"Get to work or else get out" is
the slogan of the company.
This peremptory order has gone
“down the line” very generally, and
where the striking operators do not
see fit to return to work the offices
are either shut up, or some other op
erator Is placed in charge there.
Tbe order to close the Americus
office was received over the long dis
tance 'phone yesterday .by Manager
Clark, who was merely instructed to
shut up shop and give the keys to
the chief of police. This he did very
promptly.

, meut of the park property. The build
ing of other homes in that locality
should serve as an impetus to the
city council to improve Rees Park,
and make of it an ideal pleasure
ground and place of popular resort,
an emerald gem in its setting of
beautiful homes.
But this has been the situation,
practically, for two weeks.
Manager Clark states that he has
never refused to accept a message,
though always subject to indefinite
delay.” This, he states, was his in
struction from the superintendent.
Manager Clark says that he has
never "struck” in the full sense of
the ward. He is classed a manager,
and not an operator, and during the
two weeks of the strike has remained
on duty during office hours, hut hand
ling little ,if any business.
Supt. Dillon, who sent the closing
up order, was in Albany at the #me.
A new operator is being put in charge
there, and the Albany office will be
opened for business.
It is hoped the Americus office may
be opened as well.
The cotton business and other com
mercial lines as well, are almost stag
nated by the strike, and in business
circles generally the wish is fervently
expressed that the companies can suc
cessfully grapple with the situation
and resume business.
Nothing has happened to the Pos
tal office here as yet, where the strike
is still on, though this too, may be
opened up again shortly.

SHUT IP THE OFFICES
UNTIL NEW MEN COME
Small Offices on Railroads
Closed
MESSAGES WERE TAMPERED WITH
Officials <of Company Assert, and
Railroad Joint Offices Will Be
Shut Ip Until the Strike
is Over.
Out of Americus, along the lines
of the Central Railway, Western Un
ion linesmen, have been busy the past
week cutting out joint “offices" where
the operator and depot agent is one
and the same. In the smaller towns
the railroad operators act also in the
capacity of Western Union operators.
Since the strike these operators have
been refusing all commercial busi
ness, in sympathy with the -striking
operators. The company claims that
these railroad operators are interfer
ing with commercial messages, which
is given as a reason for cutting these
offices out front the commercial wires.
The company officials say that the
railroad operators, hearing calls
over the wires for Western Union
offices at which no operators are at
work, answer the calls, take the mes
sages, sign for them, and the mes
sages are lost in thin air.
It is said that hundreds of messages
have thus been sent “out into the air,”
and it is suposed that they are still
for the persons to whom they
are addressed never get them.
The action of the company in cut
ting out the connection from these
small railroad offices indicates a de
termination to fight the battle to the
hitter end.
The railroad operators deny that,
they have been interfering with com
mercial messages, and say that the
charge is ifiade for the purpose of
throwing discredit upon them.
it was stated yesterday that an offi
cial of (lie Postal Telegraph Co., would
reach Americus tomorrow to straigh
ten out the office here. Operations
will either be resumed at once or the
office will be closed pending the arri
val of another man.
It is hoped by the business public
that the companies will open up both
offices here at once.

PLACES ON FORCE
WILL BE VACANT
Two Policemen Will Resign
Very Soon.
The fact, as stated, that Police Offi
cers Wiljis and Westbrook are to
leave the force a month hence to take
positions in another field will leave
two vacancies on the police force.
Both are very capable officers aud
their plaees will be difficult to fill,
if they are filled at all. Under the
regime of prohibition the police force
and, in fact, all other departments of
the city will he reduced to fit the size
of a depleted treasury, and it may be
that these positions will be filled only
temporarily.
