feel that our good friends and
our good clothes ought to know
each other better.
These are Hart Schaffner & Marx clothes; and you
can put it down as a fact that better clothes, more styl
ish, more perfectly tailored, never came from the hand
of a tailor.
The new suits are in a number of very smart models,
and the patterns are varied enough to suit evpry taste
grays, browns, tans, in stripes, plaids and check.
The new Fall overcoats are certainly very snappy;
you’ll find your kind here. It is hardly necessary to say
that Hart Schaffner & Marx clothes are always all-wool;
you get no cotton mixture stuff under that name.
Other departments are full al
so of fine seasonable goods; hats
on the latest blocks; shirts and
neckwear like a regular [flower
garden of color and rich design.

GUY TAXES TO BE HIGHER
Council levies a Rate of $14.50 per Thousand For All
Purposes This Year.
The City Council has levied the
tax rate for the current year, and
the property owners will pay $14.50
upon each SI,OOO of property re
turned. This rate is but a slight in
crease over that of last year, and the
average citizen will not feel the dif
ference.
The rate this year is 1.45 per cent
against 1.25 last year, a difference of
less than a fourth of one per cent.
Here is the assessment:
For general expenses of the city,
one half of one per cent; for the bond
fund, one half of one per cent, and
for the support of the city schools,
45-100 of one per cent.
The fact that the voters of Americus
at the recent election authorized an
issue of bonds to the amount of $75,-

Will EXTEND THE TRACKS
Central Railway Is Granted Permission to Extend It's
Tracks Uptown.
The Central of Georgia Railway has
been granted permission by the City
Council of Americus to extend the
sidetracks along certain portions of
Hampton street, as desired, and the
extension will probably be made at
an early date, thus greatly enhancing
the value of real estate abutting upon
that street and proving a source of
convenience as well. Already the
Central Railway has tracks on the

000 for public improvements is, to an
extent, responsible for the slightly
increased rate this year over that of
last year.
There has been a very gratifying
increase in property values in Ameri
cus this year, as evidenced by the
tax returns, and a rate of 1.4a will
be sufficient for all purposes.
Aside from this, the city has been
most liberal this year in public im
provements, entailing the expendi
ture of large sums of money as a
permanent investment for Americus.
Street work and the boring of ano
ther artesian well cost considerable.
The city rate this year is exactly
that of the state and county combined
—1.45; and citizens of Americus own
ing property will pay a total tax rate
of 2.90 or $29 per SI,OOO.
