The critical ordeal through which the expectant mother must pass,

very thought of it fills her with apprehension and horror. There is no
necessity for the reproduction of life to be either painful or dangerous.
The use of Mother’s Friend so prepares the system for the coming event

Diamond Investments.
Diamonds have enhanced in value, as nearly every one knows, more than
double in the 'ast eight or ten years. The opinion of those who are in a posi
tion to know, is that under natural conditions the maximum price is far from
being attained. Added to the natural conditions, such as thejmines getting
deeper, etc. It is reported that the Deßeers people have obtained control of
Premier Mines, which were the only ones offering even slight competition. It
is therefore very evident that in the near future you will see prices much in
dated over those at present. Tennison says in his “In Memoran,” “Delay
ing long, .delay no more.” Take the hint and write us aboutlour patial
payment plan. Our line is unsurpassed in variety and beauty and the cost to
you is the cost to us plus a very moderate profit.

' CHANLERS GAME
OF POLITICS
i
Following Plan That Nomi
nated Parker.
PRACIIGAL AGENTS AT WORK NOW
Trying To Awaken An Enthusiasm
For the Rich Young New Yorker—
Association With!' arst Has In
jured Him With Straight
Democrats.
NEW YORK, Sept. 20. (SpeciaD-r
--! The sudden prominence which Ims
been given to Lewis Stuyvesant
Chanler, Lieutenant-Governor of New
York, as a candidate for the Demo
cratic Presidential nomination, is the
result of an organized effort on the
part of Mr. Chanter's friends under
the management, it is understood, of
his brother, William Astor Chanler,
to duplicate the game of politics
which resulted in the nomination of
Judge Alton B. .Parker.
Agents At Work.
The Chanler movement is not fi
nanced and managed by the same
men who handled the Parker boom
from its infancy, though some of the
workers in that campaign are under
stood to be employed in this. The
Chanler organization has been very
carefully considered and promoted,
and is understood to be very heavily
financed. Special agents adopting
practical methods have been sent to
; various sections of the country to
| promote the organization, and many
1 of the interviews indorsing the boom
I have been arranged for in advance,
i and their spontaneity and accord has
not been accidental.
The attempt is being made by the
Chanler organization to duplicate in
practically every feature the plan of
campaign for the Parker boom. This
plan has been so closely adhered to,
however, that its full purpose is dis
closed at the outset, the method of
procedure being thoroughly under
stood, and the impression among pol
iticians is that the game is one that
can not be successfully played a-sec
ond time.
Hearst Association Hurts Him.
Chanler is regarded as a Clevel
and capable young man, but his as
sociation with Mr. Hurst and the Mu
nicipal League idea is not expected to
advance his interests, and a good
many Democrats question his having
attained the proportion of a Presi
dential candidate. The propaganda
in his interest is well supported, but
is so obviously planed and manipu
lated in a cold-blooded, practical
fashion as to rob it of all elements
J of enthusiasm, while the suggestion
I that the campaign is being made in
! antagonism to Bryan invokes the re
j sentment of Bryan’s people.
Many strong Democrats who do not
desire the nomination of Mr. Bryan
feel that it would he folly to try to
nominate a candidate in open antag
onism to the Bryan element. It is re
garded as extremely doubtful wheth
er Mr. Bryan could be defeated for
the nomination on an issue of Bryan
and anti-Bryan. The Nebraskan
comes nearer controlling the situa
tion than does any other man, and it
is regarded as largely in his own
hands to determine whether or not he
will he the candidate. It is very gen
erally believed among Democrats that
if Mr. Bryan should make a determ
ined fight for the nomination he could
not be defeated in the convention,
though his election might be ex
tremely doubtful.
SIMS GETS OUT"

City Bank.
ATLANTA, GA., Sept. 20.—(Spec
ial.) —Hallman Sims, the young At
lanta banker and society man who
was sentenced to the United States
prison in April, 1903, fer embezzle
ment of SIOO,OOO the Capital
I City National Bank, causing the sus
i pension of that institution, will con-
I elude his term of imprisonment on
Sunday. Sims was sentenced to serve
six years behind the bars, but his
I excellent conduct has given him the
j benefit of the full reduction allowed
i by law for good behavior. Sims’ ar
i rest and conviction caused a great
| sensation at the time, as he was one
of the leaders in the younger set of
Atlanta society and a welcome visitor
in every home of the caiptal. Al
j though his defalcations caused the
i bank to suspend, it paid dollar for
| dollar to its depositors, and some
i thing above par to stockholders, but
i retired from business as a result of
the stain which had been put upon it
by the act of Sims.
