HEALTHY PLANTS

Well as Good Soli.
Did you ever see a rosebush which—
despite the most beneficent environment

You cannot cure Dandruff and Bald

JAB. fLOYD WAS KILLED
BY CARTER AT DSOTO
Good Negro is Shot Dead
In Road.
EYE WITNESSES TO THE TRAGEDY
Not Known Why Carter Killed Him
—Floyd Was Unarmed—Carter
Said to Have Fled the
Scene.
From DeSoto yesterday came parti
culars of a Saturday night tragedy
wherein James Floyd, a colored fore
man on the Huguenin plantation’ east
of Americus, was shot and instantly
killed by one Anthony Carter.
Floyd was killed in front of Carter’s
house as he was getting out of his
buggy to talk to Carter, at the lat
ter’s request.
This was the statement of two ne
groes, who were present and witness
ed the shooting.
Floyd had been in DeSoto during
the afternoon, and about sundown or
a little later had started home. As
he passed Cater’s house that indivi
dual went to the roadside, and, it is
said, asked Floyd to get down.
He was in the cast of descending
from the buggy, when, it is said, Car
ter shot him dead and at once fled
from the scene. Floyd was unarmed,
and evidently anticipated no trouble
when he climed from the buggy.
If the man had trouble previously
the fact is not known. It is said that
a reward will be offered for Carter’s
capture.
DEATH HAS COME TO
MRS. G. W. WALTERS
Funeral From Methodist Church
Monday.
As the shades of night gathered on
Sunday the gentle spirit of Mrs. Geo.
W. Walters, freed from its tenement
of clay, winged its flight to a brighter
and fairer realm. The end came very
peacefully and painlessly, following,
upon a brief illness.
The passing away of this pure and
beloved woman, In the prime of a
happy life, was a source of sorrow
to many friends here.
Mrs. Walters had been unwell for
some time and on Saturday last un
derwent a severe operation at the
hospital, performed with theChope of
prolonging life. She rallied for a
time, but a few hours thereafter
death came to her.
A happy home is made desolate*
w'hile a stricken husband and five lit
tle ones, with parents, brother and
sisters, mourn her loss.
Mrs. Walters was formerly Miss
Pearl Page, eldest daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. J. L. Page. Her married
life was an ideally happy one. She
and her husband had grow'n up toge
ther; together they attended school,
thence together to the altar.
No happier home than theirs was
to be found. It is darkened now, and
only sorrow dwells therein.
Mrs. Walters w r as a consistent mem
ber of the First Methodist church
for many years, and the funeral ser
vices were conducted from that san
tuary yesterday afternoon by the pas
tor, Rev. J. P. Wardlaw, many sor
rowing friends attending.
Beautiful floral designs, emblema
tic of the life that had gone out here
to shine resplendent in another
sphere, covered the casket as it was
borne to its last resting place.
