WASHINGTON, D. C., Sept. 24.—Re
sults of an important and far reach-

the visit is ostensibly for the purpose

ernor Guillermo de Lauda v Escan
don. General Pedro Rincon Gallardo,
and several others of equal import
ance.
The Secretary of State and his fam
ily will be the guests of President
Biaz at Chepultepec Castle, which has
’been, renovated and refitted for their
Accomodation. The Mexican presi
dent will give a state dinner in their
.ionor at the national palace. Foreign
.minister Mariscal will also banquet
them, and a state ball is on the pro
gram. The unique entertainment of
their visit will be furnished by Gov
ernor Guillermo de Lauda y Escan
<sor. who has arranged for a roping
contest at Mexico City, in which the
cowboys will show their skill.

Marriage of Lieut. Montgomery
At Richmond.
RICHMOND, VA„ Sept. 24. (Spec
ial) —Miss Virginia Lee, daughter of
General Fitzhugh Lee, xvill be mar
ried tomorrow to Lieutenant John
Carter Montgomery, of the Seventh
Cavalry, U. S. A. The ceremony will
be performed in the old Christ church
at Alexandria, popularly known as
George Washington’s church.
There is a peculiar romance be
tween the Lee family and the Seventh
Cavalry. This will be the third
daughter of Fitzhugh Lee to marry
into this regiment, in which there is
already one son.
They are Ellen Lee Rhea, wife of
Captain Rhea, who is now at Fort
Leavenworth, Kan.; Mrs. Ann Fitz-
Hugh Lee Brown, wife of Lieutenant
Lewis Brown,, now at Fort Riley,
and Lietenant and Mrs. George Mason
Lee, also stationed at Fort Riley.
Mrs. Lee and Miss Virginia Lee,
the youngest of the daughters, went
out to the Philippines two years ago
to visit the various members of their
family who were going there with the
Seventh, and remained until the
Seventh was sent back again recently.

GETTYSBURG FIELD

—A large party headed by Governor
Hughes will leave Albany tomorrow
for Gettysburg to attend the dedica
tion of a statue to Major General
George S. Green, which has been
erected on the battlefield by the State
of New A’ork. The dedication is to
take place Friday with Governor
Hughes as the principal speaker.
The official party that will attend the
event will include the governor, the
family of Gen. Greene and a repre
sentation of the two houses of the
legislature, besides fifty survivors of
each of the nine New York regiments
that were represented in the night
fight of Culp's Hill July 2, 1863.
