Amerieus will be well represented this morning at a “family meeting” of Seaboard Railway officials and em ployes in Savannah when more than two hundred of the employes of the fourth and fifth divisions will meet President W. A. Garrett, General Man ager T. K. Whittlesy and General Superintendent C. H. Hicks of the system by appointment. The meeting will be held up stairs in the Union Station at eleven o'clock in the morning, and will em brace every class of employe and as many as possibly can be spared from their respective stations. Those Expected. Among those who will be present will be the superintendents of the two divisions, Mr. H. B. Grimshaw, of Amerieus and Mr. C. O. Witte, of .Jacksonville, agents at the leading points as well as small stations, rep resentatives of the passenger depart ments, representatives of the freight departments, trainmasters, bridge foremen, engineers, conductors, bag gagemasters, trackmen, members of office forces. Jack Slaton, present speaker of the House and already an avowed candi date for the State Senate from this county at the next election, is not go ing to have all the pie-dispensed at the Atlanta counter. In the next el ection he will be opposed by H. W. EXCEEDS THEJO.OOO MARK September Cotton Receipts in Americus Better Than Expected. Americus will have ten thousand ] five hundred hales of September cot | ton to her credit when »the month closes tomorrow night, which is con sidered excellent when the late sea son and late crop movement is taken into account. Up to last night the warehouse receipts here totaled 10,- 095 bales, while Monday's receipts will put the total well beyond the 10,500 mark. All of this cotton was received at the Americus warehouses by wagon from Sumter and surround ing counties since the season opened, and does not include a bale of “rail road cotton” bales shipped to the com TO GEORGIA ON THURSDAY English Spinners Reached New York Yesterday and Leave Soon Tor South. NEW YORK, Sept. 28.—(Special) The party of sixty English, German, French, and other foreign cotton spinners aboard the Cunard steamer Campania, reached New York this morning. Mr. Garrett is having this meeting for the purpose of talking face to face with the men who operate the property and impressing upon them the necessity for economy and the burden duty of every one to do his best to make a success of the road, Mr. Garrett is an enthusiastic work er and talker, and his words of ad vice on this occasion will be listened ■ to with intense interest. Others to Talk. Mr. Whittlesy and Mr. Hicks will also make short talks to the men in which they will endorse what has been said by the president. A similar meeting was held at Jack sonville some time ago and was pro ductive of much good. Mr. Garrett takes a great personal interest in the welfare of the employes generally, and this fact is being daily impressed up on the men who are becoming more zealous in their efforts to increase the earnings of the road. McCord, a prominent merchant of Atlanta and well known prohibition leader, and already the impression prevails that he will be an easy win ner. Mr. McCord took a very promi nent part in the prohibition battle waged before the legislature, and is a strong man personally. press here. The warehouse and compress receipts are kept entirely sparate throughout the season. The compress has received several thoas and bales, direct from outside points, possibly 3,000 to 5,000 already.. The 10,095 bales wagon cotton were hand led and sold here and the money put into circulation in Americus. Esti mated at 12 cents as an average price (many hundred bales having been sold at 13 to 13 1-2 cents,) the 10,095 bales handled here to date brings $605,700 to the farmers of this sec tion. The crop here is not yet half in, and this princely amount will be more than doubled tre long. the International Convention of Cot ton Spinners in Atlanta, Ga„ and the entire delegation will leave for the Southern city on Thursday next. The convention in Atlanta will be of greatest importance, a dozen foreign countries being represented there by experts in the cotton trade.
