DEATH HAS COME TO
MRS. S. E. STATHAM
Passed Away on Saturday After
Brief Illness.
The death of Mrs. Ernest Statham,
which occurred at 11 o’clock yester
day morning, while not unexpected,
in view of her critical illness for a
week past, causes deepest sorrow
among the many friends of the lovely
young wife and mother here.
A sadder death Americus has rarely
ever known.
For ten days she had been ill at
the residence of her sister, Mrs. S.
R. Sims, and for a time it was hoped
that the approach of the grim reaper
could be stayed, but medical skill
and tender nursing were without
avail.
In the prime of beautiful young
womanhood, and when life held so
much for her, the summons came.
Mrs . Statham was twenty-three
years of age and the daughter of
Mr. W. C. Gray of this city. Two
years ago she was married to Mr.
Ernest Statham, the two residing
most happily at their pretty planta
tion home a few miles from the city.
The stricken young husband and
a little babe survive her.
The funeral services will take place
at three o’clock this afternoon from
First Baptist church, of which Mrs.
Statham was a member for many
years, and will be conducted by the
pastor, Rev. O. P. Gilbert, 'assisted
by Rev. Robert L. Bivins.
The pallbearers will be Messrs. El
ton C. Parker, James Taylor, J. E.
Gyles, D. R. Andrews, S. R. Heys,
James Fort, Jessie Hill and Arthur
Rylander.
