WORLD MAKES A SEVERE
ATTACK ON HARRIMAN
Demands He Be Dropped
as Member.
RAILWAY BOARD Os DIRECTORS
of Union Pacific-Directors Will Have
Meeting Tomorrow and Interest
as To Harriman's Fate is
General.
NEW YORK, October 7. (Special)
—Great interest is manifested in fi
nancial circles in the action to be
taken by the stockholders of the Un
ion Pacific Railroad company at their
annual meeting, to begin at noon
Wednesday in the offices of the com
pany at Salt Lake City, Utah. As
stated in the call, the session is for
the purpose of ‘‘the election of fif
een directors of the company and
‘ for the transaction of such other
business as may legally come before
the meeting.” The present board
of directors is composed of E. H.
Harriman, William G. Rockefeller,
Henry H. Rodgers, Henry C. Frick,
Robert W. Goelet, Charles A. Pea
body, Oliver Ames, William D. Cor
nish, A. J. Earling, Marvin Hughitt,
William Malil, R. S. Lovett, Joseph F.
Smith, James Stillman and P. A.
Valentine.
While it is expected that the meet
ing will be a cut-and-dried affair,
the element of interest has been ad
ded by the sensational open letter ad
dressed by the New York World to ;
the directors of the Union Pacific, de
tailing the financial career of E. H. '
Harriman and demanding that he be ‘
ousted from his position of supre
macy in the affairs of the road. It 1

to pass upon the acts of Edward H.
Harriman. You will there decide
whether, in the language of the prox
ies soliciting votes therefor, you will
specifically approve and ratify his
acts.
“In reality, what you are called to
pass upon has a much broader inter
est than your own corporation. It
is whether the standards of honesty,
of trust, of business honor and civic
responsibility of the leaders of fin
ance of the United States shall be
high or low. Specifically, you are
called upon either to approve or dis
approve the acts of Edw'ard H. Harri
man and to signify whether he is
your ideal of a corporate manager, of
a trustee, of a financial leader, or
whether the acts which he has done
are such as to demand his and their
repudiation by you and to disqualify
him from further continuance in any
place of public power or responsi
bility.
“The present prevalence of finan
cial distrust, popular distrust, popu
lar apprehension and credit disor
ganization is due more directly to
Edward H. Harriman than to any
other one person. In the successive
disclosures of Equitable corruption.
Union Pacific corruption, Chicago &
Alton corruption and political cor
ruption both in the state affairs of
New York and nationally, Edward H.
Harriman has stood forth as the
master mover and chief corruptor.
He is the pre-eminent figure in
all these transactions, and the just
demand for his punishment should
be fulfilled. So long as his control
is continued, so long as his me
thods are tolerated, so long as he is
protected by directors morally res
ponsible for his practices, just so
long will the American public be
lieve that Harrimanism is typical of
all American railroad and financial
management, and just so long will
it be useless to try to Stem the tide
of public resentment against all
great corporations, good or bad, hon
est or corrupt.”
Facts About the Great Majestic Range.
It is the only range in the world made of Malleable
and Charcoal Iron.
It has, beyond any question of a doubt, the largest
and best reservoir.
It uses about half the fuel used on other ranges, and
does better work by far.
The Majestic All Copper Nickled Reservoir heats the
water quicker and hotter than any other. It is the only
reservoir with a removable frame.
The Charcoal Iron Body of the Great Majestic Range
lasts three times as long as a steel body.
Being made of non-breakable material, there is
practically no expense for repairing the Majestic.
As for baking, it is perfection, not only for a few
months, but for all times to come.
A GREAT MAJESTIC RANGE lasts three times as
long as a cheap range, but it don’t cost three times as much.
PROOF —We don't ask you to take our word for any
of the above statements, but you will call at our store, a
man from .he factory, where Majestic ranges are made,
will prove to your satisfaction, that these are absolute
facts, and will show you many more reasons why the
Great Majestic Range is absolutely- the best money can buy
