NO REELECTION OF
BANK TROUBLE HERE
Mr. L. G. Council Sees Good
In the Shake-Up.
Reports from all over the country
indicate that the disturbances in New
York banking institutions are practi
cally confined to that city. Even there
only a few banking bouses are really
in trouble. The only thing needed
there is a return to a condition of con
fidence, when those who do not need
their money for immediate needs will
leave it in the banks as heretofore.
“No troubles have been experienced
by Americus banks as far as I know,”
said President L. G.. Council, of the
Planters’ Bank yesterday. “The situ
ation here is and has been normal.
“I believe that the flurry in New
York will be a good thing in the end.
It is unquestionably true that the
troubles there were due to over-spec
ulation. Too much water was repre
sented by the stocks and bonds. This
has been largely squeezed out, or will
be soon. I believe that the situation
there will right itself in a short time
and the atmosphere will be given a
needed clearing.”

BOY IS BADLY BURNED
BY CAPS IN POCKET
Young Lad Receives Painful
Injury.
The little son of Mr. J. R. Cameron
was painfully burned last night by
the accidental ignition of a boxful of
toy pistol caps carried in his pocket,
his injury being so painful as to nec
essitate the calling in of a physician
to attend him.
The lad carried the dangerous caps
in his trousers pocket, and when they
exploded last night he was painfully
burned ere the cause could be re
moved.
This is the second accident of like
kind occurring recently.
Only a few days days ago a lad at
tending Furlow School carried a
pocketful of the dangerous missiles
into the class room. In some manner
they exploded, burning him badly, ere
his blazing clothing could be extin
guished by his teacher and others.
The dangerous caps should be sup
pressed, either by parents, teachers
or the city authorities, and before
some fatality results therefrom.

REMAIN IN SERVICE
SAVANNAH, GA., October 28.
(Special)—The Savannah Volunteer
Guards have decided to remain In
the state service. Gov. Smith’s inti

the matter. This is one of the oldest
military organizations in the state.
The company had signified its inten
tion of maintaining a separate organi
zation on account of the heavy bur
dens imposed by the national law,
hut found such a thing could not be
done lawfully. Maj. W. B. Stephens,
one of the senators from Chatham, is
in command.

PRETTY WIFE OBJECTED
TO WEARING VEIL
Has Sued Jealous Husband
for Divorce.
PHILADELPHIA, PA., October 28.
(Special)—Because she says her
husband, Michael Lavelle, was jealous
of her good looks, and forced her to
dress like a Quakeress, so she would
not attract the attention of other men,
Mrs. Agnes Lavelle, has not only left
him, but has brought suit for separa
tion and alimony.
“But what good did it do me to
tell him that my eyes were only for
him? Not a tiny bit,” she said.
“‘I saw a gray-haird Cholly boy
ogling you on Broadway today,’ ■ he
would say, savagely, like a bear. ‘Now
you stop flaring your eyes around.’
“ ‘But I never looked at a single
man today, Mike ,and you know it,’ I
said.
"Well, it was pretty hard, but I
wore black for six months, until r
felt like a funeral, and then he says,
‘Put on a veil. They’re still making
too much fuss when you # go swagger
ing, like a flirting widow, down the
street.’
“I put on a veil, but he said he'
could see through it, and made me get
another so thick I couldn’t see through
it myself, and when I suggested bo
he said I must have been out with a
jolly crowd of men that bought me
champagne, and he forced me to stay
at home, black dress and all.
“I don’t suppose many wives In.
this world would have put up with
such unreasonably jealous husbands,
but, loving Mike as I really did, in
spite of everything I decided that I’d
rather humor him once more. And
then one night he came home and
looked at me reading a prayer book
in the sackcloth rocking chair, and
he said: “Now I’ve found out why
you aren’t true to me. I’ve discovered
the thing that makes you what you
really are, false woman. You go comfc
out that marcel wave.’”
