TRICKS OF MAGIC
PLEASED AUDIENCE
Malzoni, the Wizard, in!
#
Original Ads. j
In an original programme last
night Matzoni and his company en
tertained a large audience at the
opera house. Besides his own tricks,'
in which he is original and puzzling,
Mile. Matzoni played an important
part, especially in the trunk mys- (
tery. Singing by Miss Bell, in which
she was assisted by lantern slides, was
a pleasant part of the evening’s di- j
version.
The first act of the wizard was to
produce handkerchiefs from his hands
and from a sheet of paper; following
by card tricks. Later on he was ]
loaded with handcuffs and shackles i
from which he escaped easily.
But the best act was that of the,
trunk mystery, Mile. Matzoni being |
tied in a sack and placed in the trunk,
which was locked and tied with ropes
in view of the audience. The trunk
was then placed in the cabinet and
Matzoni stepped inside. In a short
while Mile. Matzoni appeared and
when the trunk was unlocked the
magician himself was found inside.
The straight jacket trick, which
was worked in full view of the au
dience, also pleased the crowd. His
escape from the jacket was a most
clever piece of work, though compar
ed to his other tricks it did not seem
so wonderful.

FUNDS FOR MOVING
CROPS IN WEST.
CHICAGO, ILL., October 29.—(Spe
cial) —Until the action of the Chicago
bankers in deciding on the issue of
clearing-house certificates, New York
conditions had not materially affected
the Chicago banks or the rates on
loans. The banks lent some money
this week at 6 1-2 per cent., 7 being
the prevalent rate.
The demand on the part of the Wes
tern hanks for the moving of crops
has continued strong, and the com
mercial-paper market has been dull on
account of the loans of country banks
for the carrying of grain and cotton.
The rate has remained at 7 per cent.
James S. McCullough, State Auditor
who is the statutory superivisor of
about 400 State banks in Illinois, said
today:
“Our State is blessed with a boun
tiful crop, which during the next five
months will be converted into money
contributed from all parts of the
world. The banks in the country are
loaded with funds, prepared not only
to furnish the money required to move
this crop, hut ready to invest in first
class commercial paper offered in the
market.

We desire to remark just here that we are not consuming
the time of our patrons during their visits to us for business
purposes by regaling them with uncalled for and unjust crit
icisms of other merchants in the city. Such methods are low,
dirty and contemptible, beneath the notice of all good people.
We make it a rule to attend to our own business and our em
ployes are always instructed to do the same, leaving the bus
iness of any and all competitors severely alone.
The removal of the ready-to-wear department to the
ground floor, the curtailing of all unnecessary expenses hith
erto attached to the same while on the second floor, thereby
enabling us to give to the trade the benefit of lower prices re
sulting from same has increased the business in this depart
ment enourmosly over what it has ever been in our history
and each succeeding day shows the most gratifying increase
everyway. The department is an ornament to this store as il
would be to any mercantile establishment in Georgia.
We cordially invite you to call and look and it will be our
pleasure to show you through whether you wish to buy or not.
Don’t forget that the silks and dress goods, notions, under
: wear, hosiery, gloves, ribbons, linens and white goods, wash
goods and all other departments are full to overflowing with
everything new and up-to-date. Carpets, rugs, mattings, win
dow shades, trunks, etc., in abundance.
