THOUSANDS CF
BUYERS IN N. Y.
NEW YORK. Feb. 14. — Special.—
Another distinct improvement in
trade was noticed by many wholesale
merchants of New York yesterday,
who found it necessary to keep their
places of business open ail day, al
though it was a holiday. During the
day 700 new buyers arrived from out
. of town, raising the number now here
to almost 4
More out-of-town merchants and
buyers are expected today, and before
the great army goes back to the
West and South it will have made
purchases amounting to many millions
; of dollars. The goods purchased yes
terday were all spring and summer
goods.
As a rule the white goods season
is over before the end of January—
that is, the trade in sheetings and
muslins. Yesterday, however, much
to the surprise of the New York
handlers of these goods, large orders
were placed.
At all of the big dry goods houses
goods business was reported with
prospects of very big sales/during
the next six weeks. The silk manu
facturers also sent in good reports,
showing that the October depression
was rapidly disappearing.
ADVERTISING SYRIP .
Mr. C. M. Fenton, representing the
California Fig Syrup Company, ar
rived yesterday in an automobile. He
is one of three automobilists who are
traveling in South Georgia in the
interests of the company. They are
sent out from the Louisville office
of the company, which is under the
direction of Mr. D. A. Talbiot.
Mr. Fenton, as well as his collea
gues in this Section, left Atlanta the
middle of January in automobiles
which were shipped to them there.
Each took parallel routes through
South Georgia. They have not met
since leaving Atlanta. On reaching
the Florida lice, they will work
northward, making the entire trip to
Louisville by automobile. At each
town the man in charge of the ma
chine distributes advertising matter
and takes orders from local druggists
as well as placing advertising con
tracts with local papers.
Mr. Fenton will remain over Sun
day in Americus. leaving Monday
for Dawson and ThomasvilJe. „
