TAKING THE WISE LOSS
It is a proof of sound business judgment to know when,
where and how to sacrifice profits so that the store and its
buying public may be both benefited. We believe that now
is the time to clean up all winter lines of merchandise. The
profit making season on these lines is over, but the wearing
season, the using season has months to run yet. You’ll find it
greatly to your advantage to change your money for merch
andise in this store at all times, but especially now.

Engineer Bob Cameron of the Am

a scarf pin which he values highly.
When the artesian well at the pump
ing station was being bored recently
the drill brought up one day a handful
of shark’s teeteh from t depth of 820
feet. Mr. Cameron picked up several
of the molars of this pre-historic man
eater, who swam in the sea that then
covered the land where Americus now'
stands. One of the sharp teeth he
had made into a scarf pin while others
were distributed among his friends.
Besides the sharks teeth, found at a
depth of 820 feet, bits of oyster shells
and other relics of the sea were
thrown up by the drill as well.

SPFCAL CARS TO
BE RUN FOR WOMEN
LONDON, March 7.—(Special)—
Cars for women only probably will
be run on the lines controlled by the
London County Council at rush hours
hereafter. During the morning hours
there are now wild struggles to board
cars at many suburban stations, and
in order that women and girls shall
be able to avoid this fight for places
the innovation is proposel.
An official concerned in the matter
said today:
“London will be the first city to
have special tramway cars for wo
men. The crush of Tooting Road
way, for instance, between 7 and 8
in the morning is almost wicked. I
have seen young girls on their way
to the city have their hats almost
torn off and their hair disarranged,
as well as their dresses muddied with
dirty boots.”

STRING OF FINE TROUT
CAUGHT AT THE MILL
Members of the “Americus Amal

Association of Piscatorial Pullerins,”
were thrown into a state of undue ex
citement yesterday when three of the
Brotherhood returned from Wells
Mill, tile fishing preserves of the As
sociation, with the first catch of the
season. These were Messrs. Rylan
der, living and Lockhart, and be
tween them was borne a burden of
beautiful trout and bream. There were
sixteen trout, weighing from three
to five pounds each, and enough bream
to fill a wheelbarrow. All of the fish
were caught with hook, and line, and
the sight will cause a stampede of
club members to Wells Mill this
week. With the fishing season now
officially opened, there is balm in
Gelead and bait in the bottle.
LETTER TO CO UNTIL. PARKER &
COMPANY,
Americus, Georgia
Dear Sirs: A few years ago, a
New York daily got up a great agita
tion for dollar gas, and got it. The
State passed the law, and the people
liked it. of course till the bills came
in. The bills were bigger, not less;
the law didn't say what the gas
should be.
The price of a gallon of honest
paint is $1.75; but there’s “paint,” all
the way from 35 cents to $1.75. A
popular price is $1.25; there are
scores of “paints” at that price. Like
dollar gas.
If $1.75 is the price of a gallon of
honest paint, you may be quite sure
there are scores of “paints” at all
prices from that down, with paint
enough in them to pass for paint.
And what are you going to do about
it?
It takes from $2 to s4a gallon to
pay the painter for doing his work,
it is worth while to pay $2 to $4 a
gallon for brushing-on paint half
whitewash?
No; the expense of that extra and
useless labor makes counterfeit paint
cost more than true.
The remedy is Devoe. There are
eight honest paints; Devoe is the
strongest one of the eight.
Yours truly,
55 F. W. DEVOE & CO.
