PRETTY GIRLS A FEATURE
OF MILLER BROS. SHOW
Splendid Mm With 101
Ranch Attraction.
The 101 Ranch cowgirl! The sauc
iest, happiest, loveliest assemblage of
femininity that ever galloped gleefully
around an arena or appeared in a
street parade, are coming to Americus.
The cowgirl may be an element of so
ciety new to this city hut Miller Broth
ers promise she will he a welcome
comer. She is a development of the
West comparing with the bachelor girl
and the independent woman of the
East.
She is not of the new woman class—
hat of the sort that discards her fem
inine attributes and tries to ape the
man—simply a lively, athletic young
woman with a superfluity of nerve
and animal spirits, with' a realization
that in affairs where skill is the chief
qualification she has an equal chance
with her brothers.
All the cowgirls whose exploits you
will witness at the 101 Ranch Wild
West in Americus on Wednesday. Nov.
9, are recruited from the 101 and ad
joining ranches and are out with the
show for ia. Jolly good time.
They can “rope" with horse running
at toy) speed, swing gracefully from the
saddle and pick a fallen handkerchief
front the ground, mount and subdue
“bucking” horses, and use gun or pis
tol with the nonchalance and profic
iency of the imost expert eowpancher.
Many of these cowgirls are making
their first visit to the crowded cities.
They are in a constant flutter of ex
citement. Never did they dream of
Dante Fashion’s demands, as illustrat
ed by tlueir sisters of the city’. Some of
these ranch belles had never seen a
parasol and cannot understand 'Why
one should not welcome the tan which
accompanies buoyant health.
Lorgnettes, vanity bags, dresses en
train and turban hats are beyond their
puzzled comprehension. True plaits,
coils and tresses of fashionable coif
fure evoke their curious interest but
no desire of emulation.

A BUMPER CROP OATS
GROWN ON COUNTY FARM
Eighty Acres Thus Planted
This Year.
Sumter county will “feel her oats”
in fact, if the crop planted today out
at the county farm materializes as
Supt. Christian of the county roalds de
partment, anticipates. The county
owns a fine farm of 200 acres three
miles west of Americus, and a great
portion of the grain and supplies con
sumed by the chaingang is raised
there. Supt. Christian is planting this
week a field of eighty acres in Ban
croft oats, from which a yield of
probably forty bushels per acre will
ibe realized next spring las twenty
acres of the land is new ground, re
cently cleared. Last year Supt. Chris
tian had sixty acres in oata there,
from which the county realized a crop
of two thousand bushels, or about 20
bushels iper acre. As the land is
richer now, the output per acre next
year should he even larger. The pos
session of this farm cuts down feed
bills for the county’s one hundred
mules very considerably.
