MAY DIVIDE THE STATE
INTO NEW DISTRICTS
Governor is Preparing Such
a Hill Now
X
The governor wired to E. Dana Du
rand, director of the federal census
bureau, this morning, requesting cer
tified copies of the population of
Georgia by counties.
This data will be submitted to the
legislature by the governor imme
diately upon its receipt.
The reapportionment of the state
will be a very simple matter y -as rep
resentation is arbitrarily fixed by the
constitution. It provides that the six
largest counties of the state, in point
of population, shall each be entitled
to three representatives in the assem
sembly.
The next twenty-six counties in
point of population shall each have
two representatives, and that the oth
ers shall ahve one representative.
The certified copies of the census
report will establish these and it will
then devolve upon the general as
sembly to pass an act fixing represen
tation accordingly.
