Preston, Ga., June 11. —Miss AIH
Kidd returned last Thursday from
Athens, where she has just graduated
at the State Normal school. Her many
friends are gratified to learn that she
has already secured a good position in
the Union City school, at which place
she spent several days pleasantly en
route home.
Miss Florence Stapleton has return
ed from Concord, where, as the guest
of her sister, Mrs. J. H. Strickland
she was the recipient of a number of
pleasant social attentions.
Mrs. Cy Carter and children, of
Fitzgerald, arrived Sunday and will
spend a month or two here at the ho
tel.
Miss Innie Mae McCurdy, of Rich
land, is visiting Misses Lois and Belle
Rees very pleasantly this week.
Miss Ibbie Cobb has returned from
a pleasant stay of several days m

Mrs. Lester Pearson and children, of

Mr. W. A. Mason, Jr., is spending a
few days with friends in Shellman.
Miss Della McManus of Macon, ar
rived Monday to he the guests for sev
eral weeks of Mrs. Maggie McManus.
Miss Nannie Mae Thomas, of Daw
son, was a guest for the week-end of

the guest for several weeks of her

Miss Berta Edwards, of Albany, ar
rived last week for a visit of some
length to Miss Dot Edwards.

Mrs. Luther Ivey and two little

Leslie, Ga., June 11. —Rev. F. L. An
derson delivered a lecture on Baracca
and Philathea tvark to a large audience
Friday evening at the Leslie Baptist
church, and preached for us Saturday
at 11 o'clock. All enjoyed his lecture
and sermon very much.
Rev. E. A. Sanders is attending dis
trict conference at Plains this week.
Mr. and Mrs. Leon Griffin and littla
daughter, Edith, are spending some
time ,at Indian Springs.
Misses Alice Ruth Timmerman and
Agnes Thomas, of Plains, May Phillips,
of Augusta, and Messrs. Albert Mc-
Michael and Frank Timmerman were
visitors here Friday.
Miss Lillie Miller, of Dothan, Ala.,
who has been the guest of Mrs. Tom
Williams, left Monday for Ocilla, w’liere
she goes to make Mrs. Homer Oxford a
visit.
Mrs. J. Maynard and three children,
Christine, T. A., and Mary Alice, of At

Mrs. A. Robinson and daughter, Ed

lecture at the Leslie Baptist church.
The friends of Mr. Thomas J. Wade

GEORGIA—Sumter County
Will be sold on the first Tuesday in
August, 1913, before the Court Hoime
door of said County between the usual
hours of Sheriff’s sales to the highest
and best bidder ail of the properties,
rights and franchises of the Americus
Gas & Electric Company, more par
ticularly described as follows, to-wit:
All of that parcel of certain lot es
land lying near the Central of Georgia
Railway Company and the Sims Ice
Factory in the City of Americus, Coun
ty of Sumter, State of Georgia, and be
ing situated on the North side of Plum
Street; bounded on the north by
Americus Compress Company’s land
and plant; on the East, by lands deed
ed to said Compress Company toy the
heirs of the estate of George M. and
Catherine Dudley; on the South, by
Plum Street and on the West by the
right of way of the Central of Georgia
Railway Company; The Eastern boun
dary being the continuation of Dudley
Street; two chains and 31 links to au
iron stake. Tlje Northwestern boun
dary being a line from said stake to
the right of way of the Southwestern
Railway Company, which is the inter
section of said Railway, and Old
Bruce, now Harrold, Johnson & Com
pany’s land. The property above de
scribed containing one and three quar
ters acres of land, more or less.
Also all its leasehold rights to that
certain tract of land upon which its
so-called new power house is located.
Said tract of land being immediately
north of the pumping station of the
Mayor and City Council of the City of
Americus and east of the tracks of the
Central of Georgia Railway Co. A
part of said tract, 35 feet wide and 150
feet in length is on the right of way of
said Central of Georgia Railway Com
pany, as will more fully appear by
reference to a lease recorded in the
office of the Clerk of the Superior
Court of Sumter County, Georgia, in
deed book "JJ” at page 76. Said Pow
er House is also partially located on u
strip of land 10 feet in width and im
mediately South and East of the prop
erty leased from the Central of Geor
gia Railway Co., and extends north
east parallel with a side track so leas
ed from said Railway Company to the
property of H. R. Johnson as will more
fully appear by reference to a lease
from the Mayor and City Council of
Americus, recorded in the office of the
Clerk of the Superior Court of Sumter
County, Georgia, in deed book

TOGETHER, with the Gas Works,
gas holders, buildings, machinery,
tools, appliances, fixtures and property
for the generation and distribution of
gas, being on the said above described
land, or connected therewith, or ap
purtenant thereto, or elsewhere, and
all of the equipment, machinery, ap
paratus, appliances, gas meters, gas
maines, pipes, conduits, and service
pipes, in, upon, through or under the
i treets, roads or other highways in
the City of Americus, Georgia, or its
vicinity, or in any other territory cov
ered by its charter.
TOGETHER, with all and singular,
the electric power stations, buildings,
power house, boiler house, engines,
dynamos, machinery, apparatus and
devices for the generation, distribu
tion and regulation of electric current,
together with all lines of polls and
wires strung thereon, erected and
being in or upon the streets of the
City of Americus, Georgia, or its vicin
ity, with all meters, transformers, arc
lights, and every and all other devices
necessary for the utilization of elec
tric current for light, heat and power
AND TOGETHER, with all and
singular, the tolls, rents, revenues, is
sues, profits and income of said Com
pany, derived from said Gas & Elec
tric Plants or from any and all
sources, and all other property now
owned and all the extensions, addi
ions and improvements made, and all
“orporate and other rights, privileges,
apurtenances, leases, contracts and
franchises of said company connect
ed with, or in any manner relat
ing to the mortgaged premises.
The above described property,
tooth real and personal, rights,
franchises, and privileges, includes the
property conveyed to the Americus
Gas & Electric Company by the Amer
icus Railway & Light Company in deed
dated the 14th. day of September, 1911,
and recorded in the office of the Clerk
of the Superior Court of Sumter Coun
ty, Georgia, in deed book “KK pags
402, as by reference thereto had, will
more fully appear.
TOGETHER, with all the ways,
easements, rights, liberties, heredita
ments. and appurtenances, whatsoev
er, unto any of the hereby granted and
mentioned premises, property and es
tate, belonging and appertaining, or u>
belong and appertain and the revers
ions and remainders, rents, issues,
profits and income thereof, and all the
estate, right, title, interest, property,
claims and demand of every nature
and kind whatsoever, now owned by the
said Company, as well at law as In
equity, of, in and to the same and ev

franchises of said Americus Gas it

a body politic by virtue of an order
passed by this court on July 19th, 1902.
2nd. That the corporate name of
your petitioner is the Grand Lodge of
Georgia of the Bright Star of the East;
as shown by paragraph one (1) in the

Makes Statement
Atlanta, Ga., June 12. Another
sensation was sprung here yesterdav
in connection, with the local political
fight, involving Mayor James O.
Woodward, certain members of Uks
city council and officials of the police
department.
A sensational affidavit has been se
cured from George M. Gentry, the
stenographer, who reported the coa
firences alleged to have been held in
a hotel room here recently, in which
a dictograph was said to have been
used against Mayor Woodward, Thom
as B. Felder, C. C. Jones, G. C. Feu
ruary, secretary to Chief of Detec
tive N. A. Lan.ford, and others.

records of the conferences. E. (i.
Miles, an investigator, declares he lo
cated Gentry in Washington, D. C..
and obtained from him the affidavit
which Miles has turned over to Mayor
Woodward.
The alleged affidavit of Gentry de
c'ares that his original transcription
of his notes on the conferences were
“padded” and altered.
The affidavit further states that
Gentry did not hear Mayor Woodward
mention the names of Chief of Police
James L. Beavers and Chief of
Detectives Lanford, as was shown in
the published record of the confer
ence.
Gentry also swears that a reporter
called at his home after the publica
tion of the dictaoraph statements and
informed him that warrants had been
issued for the arrest of Collar, Gay
C. February and himself (Gentry),
and that he left the city upon fceing
informed that lie would not be al
lowed to give bond.
According to the affidavit, the orig
inal notes taken by Gentry are in
the possession of Us brother. Ho
charges that, an effort was made to
purchase them. He mentions Coiyar
as the man who tried to secure his
notes.

3rd. That your petitioner desires to
change its name from the Grand Lodge
of Georgia of the Bright Star of the
East, to the Supreme Lodge of Georgia
of the Bright Star of the East; pe
titioner also desires to change the
.name of the organization as a “Grand
lodge” to a "Supreme Lodge,” where
said word “Grand” is used in the sec
ond paragraph 12; of the original pe
tition.
4th. Petitioner desires to amend the
original order passed by this court, in
corporating said corporation, so that
same will conform to the amendments
desired above.
Wherefore, petitioner prays that art
order be passed amending said charter
