NEW BUILDINGS
FOR SEABOARD
CONTEMPLATED
I
SHOPS WILL BE ENLARGED
And Warehouses and Office
Buildings Erected
That the permanent location in
Americus of the division headquarters
cf the Seaboard railway, as made re
cently, will be followed shortly b/
the erection of an office building and
warehouidfe near the passenger station
on Jackson street, is a fact, now prac
tically assured. The rapid increase in
business here demands these improve
ments, and they will be effected.
from a most trustworthy source
comes the information that the Sea
board will erect on Finn street a com
modious freight warehouse, supplant
ing the old structure built a quarter
of a century ago and long found wholly
inadequate to present needs.
Plans for this large brick structure,
It is said, will include provision for
headquarters offices on the second
floor. The offices will be commodious
for Supt. Grimshaw and his forces,
and will be modern in every appoint
ment.
The division offices are located for
the present in one of the buildings out
at the Seaboard railway shops, but
its distance from the commercial cen
ter of Americas renders great ihcon
venience in the general transaction of
business. Then, too, the offices at
present are far removed from th;
homes of employes, who are forced to
walk there several times daily.
In addition to the warehouse and of
fice building, it is told reliably that th;
F« aboard will begin shortly the en
largement of the division shops here.
The new shops will be equipped with
f modem machinery, and a larger force
01 skilled artisans employed there than
heretofore. The shops will be among
the best equipped in south Georgia.
Americus is essentially the place of,
location for the Seaboard’s main shops
for the Alabama division, and citizens
are pleased at the fact that the con
j templated improvement in the present
! shops plant will be made shortly.

The live stock industry must nec

various soils and have virtually creat

with plant life, is now made to fertil

barnyard fertilizer that was formerly
■ thrown away and this land of three
crops is beginning to startle the agri

This figure displays sectional parts of the Cannon Screen Sash wfith the Brass Springs which automat
ically adjust the sash to any window frame. Thus it is easily seen that while the carpenter, in building
your home may have been careless in squaring the casing, Cannon Screen Sash automatically fits any de
viation and makes a*perfect barrier to the entrance of flies, mosquitoes and other insects w r hich make in
door life so miserable.

SUMTER COUNTY COUNTRY CLUB,
..Per Crawford Wheatley, President.
THE CANNON SCREEN SASH slides up
or down on metal tracks, and the groove is made
with sufficient width and depth to eliminated any
possibility of swelling or warping tight, causing the
sash to fail to work. On this feature alone depends
the value xis any screen. The Brass Springs in the
sectional frame and the metai tracks, as used only in
the Cannon Screen, remove any possibility of that
trouble and guarantee at all times a perfect fit and
ease of operation.
AMERICUS NEGRO
INVENTS PRBimOR
Is Estimated That it Will
Revolutionize Ship
Building
Andrew Green* a negro laborer, has
invented and patented a propeller for
j-a boat that bids fair to revolutionize
• water travel. The darky is an Ameri
cus man and is employed as a section
hand by a Real railroad.
The paten office at Washington has
estimated that the new propeller will
add gr atlv to the effic ency of anv
boat on which it is placed. Andrew
got his idea for the invention by
'watching a deer swim. As he says
j “I’ve never seen a man who could
| catch a deer in the water.” And so
|he modeled his invention so that it
would work like a deer when >t
swims.
| The negro left Americus last night
for Jacksonville to interview ship
builders. He has been in correspond
enee with them for some time, aril
they have offered him a neat sum for
the patent rights.
A model of the propeller was brought
to The Times-Recorder office yester
day morning and viewed with interest
by everyone in the shop.
AMERICUS is pronounced Americus
but is spells OPPORTUNITY.
