have been put on and when Monday
rolls around the city will bp ready to
entertain the largest crowd of visitors
that have ever been in Americus.
The program prepared for the day is
a drawing card well selected. Every
feature i»-strnp.^^^tj i ie people will
come for miles to take
part in the festivities.
Both railroads leading into Ameri
cus will operate special trains on the
Fifth and special rates on account of
the celebration will be in vogue. The
Ceniral of Georgia expects to bring
over 4,000 people to Americus on the
two specials that they will operate

draw lovers of clean baseball from all
sections of southwest (Georgia, as
these two teams have the fastest ama

Interest in the floral parade is grow

have begun to get interested in jthis
event. Every lady that owns an auto
mobile has visions of winning the $25

Even the sls prize looks good to
them. Out-of-town cars will also me

The elety'j i street ball promises to
be a fitti^ 4 climax for the entire cele

a queen for this event is at fever
heat and promises a close contest. Per

ball and no lady need fear that she
will not be treated with due courtesy.
At a meeting of the committees of
the Dixie Hjlghway Celebration held at
the Chamber of Commerce last night,
Capt. Jas. A. Fort was elected as
Chief Marshall of the Day, Monday,
July sth.
The citizens present thought that no
better man in Americus could toe
found for this position, on account of
Capt. Fort’s wide experience in mil
itary affairs and his traveling off to a
great many celebrations of this chai
acter.
Capt. Fort is one of Americus’ bright
young men, who is always up and do
ing when it is for his home town. He
is a tireless worker and the young men
of the military company think a great
deal of him.
Capt. Fort will appoint 10 aids de
camp, who will assist him in the work
of the day.
Hon. Egbert Allen was also elected
as manager of the two ball games to
be played upon the grounds of the
Americus Ball Park. The entire man
agement of the park will be under Mr.
Allen’s supervision and he is positively
the best man that could be picked out
for the position. t
Enthusiasm ran high at the meeting
and many good things were said of
the work that has been accomplished
so far. The news was brought in that
people are coming here by the thous
ands from far and near, and the one
thing that was impressed by this an
nouncement was the fact that we must
have ample accommodations to feed
this crowd. Lunch stands and other
places should be opened by those want
ing to make some money that day, for
it will surely take a great amount of
food stuff to feed our visitors.

HEALTH DEPARTMENT
ASKS CITIZENS TO
CUTJOWN WEEDS
Cut down the weeds around your
house.
This is the latest request of City
Physician Dr. Mayes, and City Sanitary
Inspector O. C. Johnson.
These two men, backed by the city
fathers, are trying to make Americus
a clean city in which to live. They
want to eradicate the breeding places

Weeds are not only unsightly, but

department in their effort to clean up
Americus. A clean city means a
healthy city.
So get busy, Mr. and Mrs. Citizen.
Let’s get the weeds cut and out of the
way before the celebration on the
Fifth.
