ATLANTA, Ga., Sept. 11. The
cheerful news has come to Georgia
that the war will not prevent the child
ren from having their Christmas toys
as usual this year.
As al? the older children know, the
home of Santa Claus is in Germany,
and not at the North Pole. Indeed,
his oldest name of “Kris Kringle,' -
which is German for Santa Claus, and
the first toy shop he ever had was in
the historic German city of Nuremberg
half a thousand years ago.
Ever since that time practically all
of the Christmas toys seen in the Unit
ed States have been made in Germany.

Consequently there was some doubt,
because of blockades by the allies,
whether Santa would be able to “get

But now word comes officially that
England has consented to relieve the
blockade for the specific purpose of
letting Santa and his reindeers come
across the snow and ice, and that s•">,-

Swimming Season Still On.
ATLANTA, Ga„ Sept. 11. The
swimming and bathing season in At

ended with the water carnival at East
Lake Saturday, has taken on a new
lese of life because of the hot weather
and judging from the enthusiasm of
the crowds at all the lakes around
Atlanta, it will probably continue for
several weeks, perhaps, to October
first.

While this surprising condition is in
one way a testimonial to Atlanta’s bus
iness activity, in another way it re
flects discredit on the city because the
traffic is out of proportion on Peach
tree solely because there is no other
well-paved parallel street to carry a
share of it.
All autos, trucks, wagons and other
conveyyances that want to go from
Five Points anywhere into the north
ern section of Atlanta which consti
tutes the largest part of the city have
to travel Peactree or go by a rounda
bout street paved with cobblestones.
Eventually, it is hoped to make Ivy
street a satisfactory parallel.

WISHED SHE
COULD DIE
And Be Free From Her Troubles,
but Finds Better Way.
Columbia, Tenn.—“ Many a time,”
says Mrs. Jessie Sharp, of this place.
“1 wished I would die and be relieved
of my (suffering, from womanly troubles.
I could not get up, without pulling at
something to help me, and stayed in bed
most of the time. 1 could not do my
housework.
The least amount of work tired me
out. My head would swim, and 1 would
tremble for an hour or more. Finally, 1
took Cardui, the woman’s tonic, and 1
am not bothered with pains any more,
and 1 don’t have to go to bed. In fact,
1 arti sound and well of all my troubles.”
Cardui goes to all the weak spots and
helps to make them strong. It acts with
nature—not against her. It is for the
tired, nervous, irritable women, who feel
as if everything were wrong, and need
something to quiet their nerves and
strengthen the worn-out system.
If you are a woman, suffering from any
of the numerous symptoms or womanly
trouble, take Cardui. It will help you.

POETRY BUTCHERED IN
DE WOMEN
ALLANTA, Sept. 11—Following the
example of D’Aununzzio, the Italian
war-poet who bombarded 'he Austri
ans with bitter sonnets, the Georgia
suffragettes and anti-suffragettes have
begun to include poetry in the mis
siles—or missives—of war.
One runs something like this, based
on the old nursery rhyme,
“Ding-dong dell, the woman's In the
well
"Who put her there- Ignorance. I
swear,
•‘W’ho’ll pull her out? The Vote,
without a doubt.”
Another one, which is more cheerful
and shows a knowledge of male hu
man nature as well as woman’s rights
is a s follows:
“Little Miss Horner stood on a corner.
“Making a suffrage speech.
“Her logic and brain, said the women.
‘are plain.’
“But the men said ‘ain’t she a
peach’!”
The prize poem of the anti-suffra
gettes is a stinger, and rather gets
under the skin of some of the vot?
