Why Cuss?. Can’t Be Helped.
ATLANTA, Ga., Sept. 12.—Why is it
that men who would never think of
being impolite to a lady face to face,
will growl and cuss and quarrel most
impolitely over the telephone? The
Southern Bell discusses the penom
enon in a statement just made publ’c
entitled, “Why Cuss? The Girls Can’t
Help It.”
Every man. at times, gets “mad” at
central, feeling that he is dealing with
a machine rather than with a person,
but that doesn't warrant either from
a standpoint of politeness or common
business senses, the practice of "bawl
ing out” the operator and being dis
courteous to a young woman who is
in all probability doing the very best
sb© can.
“If a fellow talked to his wife or
sister like he sometimes talks to ths
telephone operator, he would have to
leave home before brakfast,” says an
Atlanta man, commenting on the ap
peal to treat the telephone girls with
courtesy.
Stopping Illicit Narcotic Sale.
ATLANTA, Ga., Sept. IS.—The var
ious local physicians’ societies of Ful
ton county and Atlanta are co-operat
ing with the federal authorities in
the movement, almost completed, to
wipe out entirely the illicit trade in
narcotics here.
It is believed that as the result of
this cooperation it will soon become
absolutely impossible, if it is not al
ready so, to obtain any kind of nar
cotic drugs, except for strictly legit
imate purposes.
