JUDGE I.B.HUDSON
DEADINBfHON.TEX.
Col. J. B. Hudson received a tele
gram Thursday announcing the death
of the wife of his brother, Judge Vic -
tor B. Hudson, of Bryan, Tex. The
telegram did not state whether her
death was sudden or not, nor when the
funeral would occur.
Judge Hudson is the youngest son
of the late Hon. C. B. Hudson, for
many years solicitor general of this
circuit and a brother of Col. J. B.
Hudson. He was raised in Schley and
Sumter counties and hs many friends
throughout this section will deeply
sympathize with him in the loss of his
beloved wife.
Judge Hudson has been a resident
of Bryan, Texas, for a number of years
and is one of the most prominent at
torneys in the state.
BRIGHT 1918 DAWNS
FOR WHOLE GEORGIA
ATLANTA, Ga., Jan. 7. —The year
1916 has dawned bright for business
and prosperity in Georgia. December
financial reports and clearing house
statements all showed midwinter busi
ness running at full speed and a dis
position on the part of merchants ev
erywhere in the South to get ready for
a big spring trade which they are ab
solutely confident will come.
It will be a busy political year, in
cluding a race for governor and other
statehouse and congressional offices,
and also featuring the change to a
newer and stricter prohibition law. But
forewarned is forearmed in a business
sense, and it is not anticipated that
general business will suffer at all the
transition from “half-wet” to "all-dry”.
1 he business affairs which will be di
rectly affected by the change, for in
stance. include stores and other places
which are now used as beer saloons,
and all have ample time to make other
arrangements before the new law ac
tually goes into effect.
In the rural sections, the farmers
have learned more and more the ad
cantage of diversified crops and are
gradually each year coming more and
more out of the bondage of eating the
proceeds of their cotton crops before
the crops are made.
The farmers are looking forward
also to the establishment in some way
of a more advantageous rural credit
system than the preesnt one which has
not brought them the relief they had
hoped for.

Statistical Calendar.
The 1916 edition of the Johnston,
Storm & Company’s cotton statistical
calendar will be issued in a few’ days.
Last year, Johnston, Starm & Company
say “it was difficult to get replies re
questing one calendar.” This year cot
ton factors, merchants, etc., are not
only applying for a calendar for their
own use, but are sending names asking
for anywhere from six to twenty cop
ies for their friends. One Mississippi
Valley client not only made applica
tion for his firm, but sent us the mem
bership list of an entire Tennessee
cotton exchange, with the statement
“he felt sure everdy member of this
exchange w’ould like to receive one of
the calendars.”
