The tragedy in Macon Monday night
when a young innocent woman was
made to pay the price of a drunken
debauch with her life, causes a shud
ocr to pass over a careful, reasoning
person. To think how harmless she
was passing through the thorough
fares of that city—when in the
tv inkling of an ey < a man "out for
a good time'* ended her life.
It is charged that whiskey is being
i opexnly sold over the bars in Macon.
Can this be a general ceW'ratlon be
fore Ute night of April SOth? Ar - the
‘city authorities in any place in Geor

few months of lease remains for the
v hiskey man*
Macon has been aroused too late
> and God forbid that any city shall bo
jbroused at the same price The tnin
‘ infers of that city have plead, and
are pleading and their prayers shall
not unanswered.
It is just such incidents as thes'
which have brought prohibition to
tie forefront throughout the nation.
The dissipation and debauchery of
drink is being driven homo.
It should not be allowed to continue
ter another moment in this state, an 1
ti e gwd pex'pl? of the sovereign com
monwealth of Georgia will look to her
officials for the enforcement of this
law and all other laws.
The time is coming when justice
shall be meted out. and if not by the
, officers w hom the people have en
; trusted with their happiness, lives,
prosperity and property- by the peo
ple themselves There lies the grounds
for the great discontent which is
svvtH'ping over our people We want
action we want men of action.
Clear out and clean up the viola

MIL BOH. MEET 11..
After the first alarm was sounded
e'er the presence of the boll weevil
m this section of the state, there has
..ten an apparent slackening in the
р. blicity which the nuisance has beer,
given. Wo would say that there had
I <vn a relaxation of efforts against
t'.is pest, tut certainly we don't hear
; s much concerning its presence as we
diil a short while ago,
Mr. 801 l Weevil is here—we take
that on the authority of those in posi
tion and w ith knowledge to know-.
. So it behooves our farmers to util
ire every means at their command in
combatting this menace. The stories
of the Gulf States through which he
l as passed are no idle dreams—they
are sad realities.
It's too late to lock the stable after
the horse is gone-—and so it will be
with us. if we permit the boll weevil
i:o take the upper hand in the first
, battle.
County IX’raonstrato.r Oliver will
с. -operate with any farmer. The State
Board of Entomology is ready, along
with thp State Department of Agricul

work. These organisations were made
for you and it is necessary that yo.:
make use of them.
