BLALOCK WRITES I
LETTER II JUDGES
A. O. Blalock, collector of internal
revenue in Georgia, with headquarters
in Atlanta, has written to the judges
of the superior, city and county courts
of the state advising them of the recent
attitude which the government has
asumed toward "moonshining.” It is
likely that the counties of Georgia will
witness a strenuous campaign against
the unlawful whiskey-makers. The
leltter is:
To Judges Superior, County and City-
Courts—Dear Sirs: Hon. B B. Boul
din, revenue agent of the division of
Georgia and Florida, has received no
tice from the department at Washing
< n that after March 1 no guides, posse
men or informers would be employed,
and that raiding would only be carried
on by regularly appointed deputy col
lectors.
The revenue agent, having only
eight deputy collectors under him for
raiding purposes, will aid the counties
undertaking to enforce their laws lo
cally.
Experience has demonstrated that it
is almost useless to send these offi
•cerg into counties where they fail to
receive the co-operation of citizens and
county officials. Counties where the
citizens and officials give their co-op
eration are first entitled to the services
of the federal officers.
There are approximately twenty
counties for each deputy collector,
therefore, you will readily understand
that it is impossible for one deputy col
lector to cover his territory and sup
press illicit distilling and the illicis
sale of whiskey without the hearty co
operation of citizens and local officials.
I, therefore, deemed it advisable to
furnish you this information in order
that you might bring the same to the
attention of the citizens, juries and
officials of the counties of your cir
cuit or county, as the case may be.
It is my belief that, with the co-op
eration of the citizens, juries and local
authorities, aided by efficient federal
officers, illicit distilling, commonly
known as "moonshining” would soon
practically be a thing of the past in
Georgia.
To suppress such violations, only
upright, competent officers will be
sent out by the revenue agent’s and
the collector’s office, and what is now
known as stool-pigeons, informers and
branch-walkers will no longer be em
ployed.
Upon request of local authorities of
any county a deputy collector will be
sent at the earliest practicable mo
ment. Your truly
A. O. BLALOCK, Collector.

PONT-A-MOUSSON, Rrance, March 6
The clean-shaven American motor
ambulance drivers, mostly Harvard
men, who have shared in the opera
tions around Bois le Petre for nearly a
year, have set a fashion in Pont-t-
Mousson. The "Mussipontains,” as the
inhabitants of this old Lorraine town
are called, have purchased razors and

nothing doing at the front, three cars
are kept ready at the relief post ofc
emergencies, and the others in the ga
rage ready for one of the symtematic
bombardments of Pont-a-Mousson.
“The Americans will lhave a good
lace in the history of Pont-a-Mousson,”
said a French officcer of the division,
“so that later on w-hen our children
return to it they may know they
should perpetuate the gratitude w-e
owe them.”
Many victims of the two hundred
and more of shellings the town has
endured owe their lives to the aid of
the American ambulalnce drivers.
The general commanding the divis
ion recognized their work officially in
the following citation:
‘‘Sanitary Section No. 2 of the Amer
ican Ambulance. Composed of volun
teeers, friends of our country, they, all
of them, have not ceased to make
themselves noticed for their .enthus
iasm, coiurage and zeal. Careless of
danger, they have worked without res
pite to rescue our wounded whose grat
itude and friendship they have won.”
(Signed.)
“THE GENERAL COMMANDING.”
The relations of the Americans with
the French officers are excellent, and
ir Pont-a-Moussdn they are “adopted
citizens.” The section working com
prises thirty American volunteers with
several cubaltern French officers and
soldiers acting as interpreters.

The Enemy’s Advance.
With the United States covered by
spies, and with thousands of foreign
mechanics working in our factories,
ready to take up arms against us, the
leader of the enemy wins the favor of
the daughter of one of our high naval
officials. At has request, she steals the
plans of an aerial torpedo controlled
by wireless, which is Amedica’s chief
refuge of defense. The inventor, a
lieutenant in love with her, is kidnap
ped and the siege of America begins.
Th.e girl learns of the duplicity of
ths conspirator, and seizing her fath
er’s sword, kills him. A destroyed
gives chase to the qacht carrying the
in’portant plans and shoots it to pieces.
Meanwhile the foreign battery opens
fire. The lieutenant electrocutes his
guard and summons the Atlantic Fleet
by wireless. The militia is also called.
The fleet annihilates the enemy’s artil
lery. Sunrise finds the lieutenant and
the girl united under the stars and
stripes. The entire Atlantic Squadron
is used in the picture, together with
10,000 soldiers, marines and sailors,
including Secretary Daniels, Admiral
Fletcher, Admiral Winslow, Vice-
Admiral Mayo, the war college at
Newport and the staff of officers of the
Kewport Training School.
